Studying at the university can come at a very different cost depending on the autonomous community in which it was completed. Catalonia is the community with the highest prices, along with Madrid and Castilla y León. On the contrary, Galicia, Extremadura and Andalusia are the territories with the lowest prices.
This is the main conclusion of a report prepared by Observatori of the University System (OSU), with regard to the prices of Spanish public universities in undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees.
To be able to compare, research divides the type of degree into groups, since not all races are expensive in the same way. In general, more experimental studies, such as those in health sciences or engineering or architecture, have prices far higher than those of humanities or social sciences.
The price difference in some cases is striking. For example, Humanities studies, which are the lowest for degrees in the whole of the State, cost around 600 euros per year in Galicia and about 1,500 euros in Catalonia, which represents a difference of almost 1,000 euros between communities; the most expensive grade is medicine, which costs about 750 euros in Andalusia and Catalonia can cost about 2,400 euros.
How much does it cost to study Helath Sciences?
The price of undergraduate studies in Health Sciences ranges from 750 euros per course (Andalusia) to 2,372 euros (Catalonia). Therefore, in one community they can be three times more expensive than in another.
How much does it cost to study Experimental Sciencies?
This category includes degrees in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology or Mathematics, among others. The lowest price is found in Andalusia (about 750 euros per course) and the highest in Catalonia (2,146 euros per course).
How much does it cost to study Engineering Architecture?
Studying in one community or another in this area can mean paying 3 times more for the same studies: from 757 euros in Andalusia from the course to 2,372 euros in Catalonia.
How much does it cost to Education for Teachers?
The prices of teacher training studies are lower than previous in most autonomous communities. The variability ranges from 591 euros in Galicia to 1,516 euros in Catalonia in Catalonia. Thus, the price in one community can be more than two and a half times as in another.
How much do Social and Legal Science studies cost?
As for undergraduate studies in social and legal sciences, the differences between the cheapest and the most expensive community are maintained: 591 in Galicia versus 1,516 euros in Catalonia.
How much does it cost to learn Humanities?
Humanities studies are generally the ones with the lowest prices. Again, the price variability is evident: from the 591 euros of Galicia to 1,516 euros in Catalonia per course, 2 and a half times more than the previous one.
And learn a master's degree?
The master's prices are very heterogeneous and cannot be compared by zones, since in many cases they are not set according to these criteria, as explained by the OSU study. Below are the minimum and maximum prices of the master's degree to work in a regulated profession in Spain.
Some autonomous communities, such as Andalusia, Asturias, Castilla y León, Catalonia and Navarra, set a unique price. In Andalusia you will find one of the lowest prices (821 euros per course), while in Catalonia, as in the grades, you will find the most expensive prices (2,470 euros).
The price change is less than 100% in each autonomous community, except in the Community of Madrid, where the difference between the minimum price and the maximum reaches 3,297 euros.
