"To act is to give a country life"

Roberto Diez-Martinez can not ask for more ... in regards to the professional field. In fact, since its creation of Ikan Biotech since 2015, it has won two new awards.
The awards have been overwhelmed by the efforts of Robert and his team. On the one hand, Ikan Biotech has been nominated for the Best Spanish Company and Best in Biotechnology; and on the other, Robert has received the XXI Entrepreneur Award. In this interview, Robert has talked about several issues: himself, Ikan Biotech, entrepreneurship, future, youth ...
In a short space of time, the best and best Spanish company in Biotechnology, and the Entrepreneur XXI Awards. How are these pass passages?
Certainly, we can say that this kind of news is always welcome, not because of the reward itself, but because it means an acknowledgment of the effort made in previous years. When we received the news, we were shocked, it is something you do not expect, far from what you see, or rather, large companies, more than 100 years old and very strong.
How was the idea of creating Ikan Biotech born?
It must be said that one of the three founders was one of the motivations that was to return to our country everything that was invested in our education. Today, everyone is blinded with the American dream, with a benchmark in USA, Germany, France, Switzerland, UK, etc. We live in countries like, and we believe, and we believe that this should not be the case.
Why do we need to be rich in other countries with the knowledge we have at our disposal? Why can not we return to society what he has given us all?
What is the highlight of the comparison with Ikan Biotech companies of the same sector?
One of the first models of benchmarking in the world of first-class companies is the testing and analysis of components in pathology and human infections, in our case, in the field of microbiology and oncology.
But it is also worth noting that the great community that forms part of Ikan, a business that lives in its own life, often goes through it alone.
What has been the evolution of the company?
Of course, at the outset, we exploited our value, our differentiating ingredient, but this world is slow, it's a train of rocking, it is necessary to take everything we need to nourish fast, and we decided to incorporate a new branch, ecotoxicity. This allowed us to take a certain financial muscle to make more difficult projects like oncology.
What are your next goals?
In microbiology, our goal is to achieve a microbial ingredient that will be used in the agricultural and livestock sector. We are mindful of that.
On the subject of oncology, we want to finish with an instrument that will help you in the personalized treatment of patients and hope that you will not only improve the treatment, but also the living conditions.
Did you ever see yourself forced to act as an activist or have you ever wanted to act?
I am not a person who likes to stay there, and logically, there are things that I feel and I do not like and I complain. I'm a PhD in Biology, Biochemistry and Biomedicine, and in this country, often, in my generation, I am cataloging you quickly as a biologist, now, like Ana Obregón! In other countries, however, is the first thing to think about and what are you doing now? oncology environment ?, etc. Another critical point that forced me to embark on accidents and to show here is that we are all valuable and that everyone can give our society what they can do and logically make the society B + G (Innovation + Development).
What is the best and worst thing about being an entrepreneur?
The best thing is you are your principal. You do not have to give an explanation about some decisions Or do you have a final decision.
Clearly, the worst is in direct contact with the best, but the final decision is ... is it a good decision? can it affect the company? If I do this or another, how will it affect the medium term?
How do you see entrepreneurship in Spain?
In my field, in biotechnology, I think it has begun to become an important factor. In other sectors, such as the automotive industry, different areas of engineering, etc., I think it is settled.
However, embarkation is a problem in Spain. People, investors, want everything for themselves or for a long time, they want to see high profitability in the short term, but B + G is a long-term sector, sometimes more than 10 years old, to make this translation true.
For only three years, your personal person has passed from 3 per-tsunami to 14 people, you have received awards, signed an agreement with Rockefeller University in New York ... What is the secret to your success there in little time?
It is clear that a factor is sustainability, but the main factor that we always promote is the human team of Ikan.
We always say that nothing of our employees is nothing, and this is 100% true. The opposite is a company that lies and I doubt that a world company can say so. There's actually the power of Ikan, there's the secret.
What advice would you give to these young people who do not open a business?
The first advice I would give is that it is a moment of reflection, ask the people that are going to start and analyze their good and bad. Of course, if they have a dream, they will fight for it, no one can say that they can not because everyone is capable and that everyone has enough power to fulfill their dream. If you fight until the end and if they create a business and break it down, do not worry, sit down, analyze why this failure was and start it again and start it.
