The Deputy Minister of Vocational Education, Jorge Arevalo, together with the Director of Technology and Advanced Learning, Rikardo Lamadrid, has revealed the details and innovations of the registration campaign for Vocational Education in the Basque Country, for the 2024-2025 school year. The registration period is open until May 24. Vocational Education in the Basque Country will offer 64,105 places next academic year, 5,780 more than in the 2023-2024 academic year.
5,780 more places
Looking ahead to the next school year, the Department of Education has significantly increased the offer of Vocational Education places, having created 5,780 new places. This means the creation of 244 new groups in Vocational Education schools.
Depending on the training levels, most of these 5,780 places will be created in higher education cycles. The periods are divided as follows:
z Basic level cycles: +780 places.
z Middle school cycles: +1,950 places.
z Higher level cycles: +2,690 places.
z Specialization courses: +360 places.
The ten professional areas that will increase the number of places offered the most in the 2024-2025 academic year are the following:
z IT and communication (+900).
z Mechanical manufacturing (+715).
z Administration and management (+670).
z Electricity and electronics (+590).
z Social and cultural services and community services (+400).
z Health (+375).
z Installation and maintenance (+360).
z Hospitality and tourism (+235).
z Personal image (+215).
z Transport and vehicle maintenance (+210).
Regarding the network of schools, most of these 5,780 places have been created for schools in the public network: 4,005 places in the public network and 1,775 in charter schools.
Professional certificates and integrated courses
The main novelty of this new admission process (for the 2024-2025 academic year) is that this process has also been opened for C degrees (professional certificates) and integrated tracks.
C degrees are courses offered primarily to active or unemployed workers. As part of the Flexible Modular Vocational Education Offer, C degrees are characterized by the fact that students only enroll in some of the modules of a degree (not all the modules of a degree), and on completion, they obtain a professional certificate. Everything these students do and overcome through the Flexible Modular Offer can be accumulated towards a degree (when they complete all the modules that make up the degree), if that is their ultimate goal.
On the other hand, the aim of the integrated routes is that a person who starts the basic level of Vocational Education can continue to study at the intermediate level (after finishing the basic level) in the same school. That is why it is a four-year course (2 elementary and 2 intermediate). After the first two years, he will obtain a secondary school diploma and a basic technician diploma; at the end of the next two years, he will obtain a technician degree (intermediate level).
Finally, specialization courses are courses that last one year. They are for students who have completed an intermediate or higher education cycle, and allow them to specialize in a specific field or field that is closely related to the cycle they have completed.
It should also be recalled that students who have completed a higher education cycle can obtain recognition of credits if they continue to study at university (between 6 and 66 credits), depending on the relationship between the education cycle studied and the university degree chosen. These are the pathways from Vocational Education to University. Today, 75 educational cycles offer pathways to 59 university degrees, with recognized credits.

BirtLH offers the opportunity to carry out intermediate or advanced distance education cycles, in a semi-present mode. More information on the BirtLH website.
