Noáin will host the IX Navarra Ecological Fair from September 13 to 15, which will have 37 stands of producers and different activities aimed at the general public and will begin on the 12th with the conference of the nutritionist Elena Corrales.
The ecological sector of Navarra returns with the central event of each year, the IX Navarra Ecological Fair, an event that combines direct sales and the possibility of meeting producers first hand with a great program of activities aimed at having a good time learning and raising awareness about the importance of consuming fresh, seasonal, processed and artisanal foods with the ecological seal: the eurohoja. The fair will open on the 13th, Friday, in the afternoon, on Saturday all day and on Sunday until midday.
The Navarra Ecological Fair is a great event that brings together the organic sector and attracts many people. Those who come to the fair, in addition to buying, tasting or enjoying the activities, will also have the opportunity to learn about a sector that is booming, as more and more people are demanding healthy, chemical-free and sustainably produced food, being a strategic and growing sector, with more than 70,000 certified hectares throughout Navarra.
The details of the fair
There will be a total of 37 stands, of which 30 are organic producers from Navarra and seven from other autonomous communities, specifically from La Rioja, Valencia, Malaga, Cantabria and Zamora, and you can buy fruit and vegetables, oils, eggs, pasta, cosmetics, sausages, meats (also vegan), honey, bread and pastries, pastries, mushrooms, aromatic plants, cheeses, jams, red fruits, mushrooms, pizzas, legumes and a long etcetera.
In relation to activities, this edition of the Fair offers a varied programme for all audiences. There will be a series of activities focused on children, raising awareness and sensitising them through play on the importance of food, the origin of food and educating and promoting sustainable eating habits. Workshops and children's storytelling have been scheduled, as well as children's tastings, workshops to discover sustainable foods. In addition, throughout the fair there will be the Txikiekozona with a children's play area. Another nod to the little ones is the Fair's own poster, an origami of fruits and vegetables that invites them to educate about organic food and to reflect on the importance of consuming local and seasonal food produced sustainably.
Another new feature is that there will also be two exhibitions, a photographic one in the Lorenea building throughout the weekend, in collaboration with Onay (Navarra Organization for Aid among Peoples), entitled ‘Siwatl: women forging the future’ which reflects the relationship between a group of Salvadoran women and the environment in which they live and another in the artisan trades area with the exhibition “Travelling Museum: 100 objects to make history” organized by the Arteta Ethnographic Museum which will be on Saturday.
On Saturday morning there will also be an exhibition of artisan trades which will include wood carving, a demonstration of forging, wool and a basketry workshop which aims to highlight tradition, creativity and artisan trades, linked to agricultural and livestock activities. It will be from 11:00 to 13:30.
Musical performances and DJs, guided tours, wine, bread and jam tastings, yoga, talks, as well as a gastronomic area, officiated by Geltoki, which will be open throughout the Fair to enjoy organic food and drinks at any time; complete a program that aims to be entertaining, informative and awareness-raising in equal parts.
The Fair's programming will start on Thursday, September 12, at 6:30 p.m., with a pre-fair talk by biologist and nutritionist Elena Corrales. With more than 40 years of experience, she will give a talk on the importance of consuming organic food in maintaining and recovering health. In the conference she will review the history of food production and the beginning of industrialization with the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, antibiotics, herbicides and hormones. The course will also compare the nutritional values of organic foods with those of conventional crops, and will conclude by analysing the effects of agro-food chemistry on human health, answering the question of whether foods cure or only prevent diseases.
