The association of linguistic industries of Euskal Herria, in collaboration with the Union of European Nationalities (FUEN). More than 30 speakers from all over Europe met, including from Euskal Herria; and among other things, the reality and situation of 15 minority languages were known.
The survival and development of minority languages contributes to creating a powerful industry related to the language, which not only generates cultural wealth, but also economically strengthens the territory.
The conference aims to highlight the contribution of minority languages such as Basque to the local economy. It also wants to highlight the importance of the presence of minority languages in new technologies and in the digital environment, also focusing on the challenge and opportunity that this effort represents.
The explosion of artificial intelligence in recent years has increased the hegemony of English in the digital sphere and other languages, especially minority languages, have to make a double effort to guarantee their presence in the area. Therefore, it is important to manage linguistic diversity also in the digital and technological environment.
In the Basque Country, the need to manage multilingualism has led to strengthening the language industry, highlighting the contribution of this multilingualism to the economy of the territory.
The conference ‘Hizkuntzen irabazia’ shows the effort that is being made so that Basque is not left behind in new technologies and will allow us to know what and how other minority languages in Europe do it. Likewise, we will be able to learn about the contribution of the different languages to the economies of their countries and learn about the opinion of the European Union on the development of languages.
