Almost 100% of students in industry training courses achieve employment that coincides with their studies within six months. This may be the general letter of introduction of Basque Vocational Training in general. HETEL, the Vocational Training Association of the Basque Vocational Training Association, includes more than 24 schools in the three provinces and more than 10,000 students. Last year (2017-2018), it surveyed 3,431 graduates, and the results confirm that fact.
The survey was conducted in November and December, ie after six months of completion, at 14 schools in Bizkaia, 8 schools in Gipuzkoa and one in Alava, with 89% of the students responding (3,059 students).
The report clearly shows that during the training cycles in the industrial sector, the employment rate is almost 100%. In all training cycles, the average job placement rate is about 80%, at the end of six months. In terms of the real rate of insertion, the highest percentage cycles are: electrotechnical and automated systems, production scheduling in mechanical manufacturing, industrial mechatronics, electronic maintenance and industrial robotics in higher cycles, welding and casting, additional nursing care and machining in the middle; all of these higher education cycles have an employment rate of over 90% and the average employment rate is over 80%. In contrast, the cycles with the lowest employment rates include Social integration (45%), marketing and advertising (53%), and micro-computer systems and networks (40%).
Another interesting fact that the report provides is that 83% of graduate students work in jobs that match their training.
Women and industry
Thanks to Basque Vocational Training, around 50% of young people choose vocational education instead of going to university. In recent years, enrollment has steadily increased. In addition, almost half of them are women. For HETEL, 26% of the 2017-2018 graduates were women (907). However, the report confirms the strong trend of previous years, with industry cycles still reflecting a minimal percentage of women. Thus, the percentage of women who choose to take an industrial course is about 6% or 7%. "This percentage has remained unchanged for the last 10 years," explained Julen Elgeta, President of HETEL.
Despite the predominance of female hegemony in some cycles - aesthetics and beauty, haircuts, commercial activities, textile and leather goods repairs (100%), infant education (95%) or additional nursing care (88%) - in other cycles, anecdotes it is a mere matter of concern, as these are the cycles with the highest employment rates. This is the case, for example, with the following cycles: heat generation facilities, electromechanical maintenance, automotive, electrical and automatic installations, machining, welding and boilerwork, molding and molding, and electrotechnical and automated systems. In these cycles, the percentage of women is between 0% and 4%.
LH Dual
The study also highlighted the effectiveness of Basque Vocational Dual Education in seeking employment. Thus, over the course of the 2017-2018 academic year, 623 HETEL students were selected, of which 110 were women (18%). From the survey, it can be clearly concluded that, in almost every cycle of training, after the completion of the case, at six months, the insertion of the working world is significantly higher than the average of the other students. In the branch of hospitality, for example, the rate of employment rises from 60% to 100% after students complete the LH Dual. This is also the case for families dealing with people in administrative management or dependency, where the employment rate rises from 60-70% to 100%. In any case, students who do Dual Degrees, in addition to increasing job opportunities, have a 100% job placement rate in many families, especially in industrial cycles, which shows the efficiency of the system.
Vocational Training in the Basque Country has special characteristics Of the students enrolled, 53% complete a cycle of higher education, 36% of intermediate and 11% of Basic Vocational Training. In the case of women, 62% complete a cycle of higher education, 32% have a middle education and 5.4% have a basic vocational education.
Finally, it is very common for middle school students to continue to study at the upper level. Currently, about 56% are studying cycles that will provide them with higher professional qualifications. The percentage of undergraduate students pursuing an undergraduate or college degree is around 22%, and 72% of Basic Vocational Education students continue to study, probably completing a middle school cycle.
