Let's up about Europe

Increased Erasmus+ participation

On 28 January, the European Commission published its annual Erasmus+ 2018 report. It reflects the increased participation of individuals and organizations in a greater number of subsidized projects, which show that the Erasmus+ programme is increasingly inclusive and international (with 153 partner countries around the world).

Erasmus+ continues to represent one of the European Union's greatest achievements, promoting European values, promoting social integration and intercultural understanding, entrepreneurship and team spirit, opening the door for people from disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as smaller organisations. In the last 30 years, 10 million people have participated in the Erasmus+ programme or its predecessors.

Data at European level

In 2018, the EU invested in the programme 2.8 billion euros in total, an increase of 10.3% compared to 2017. Thus, Erasmus+ is aimed at 3.7% support for young people in the EU, the programme's target between 2014 and 2020.

During 2018, 95,000 organizations participated in 23,500 projects at European level. In this sense, the program allowed more than 853,000 people, among young people, students, trainees, teachers and trainers, to complete a period of learning, volunteering, training or teaching abroad during the academic year 2017/2018.

In the European ranking, Spain continues to be at the top reception of Erasmus+ students of Higher Education with 51,321 mobility (well ahead of Germany, 34,539, United Kingdom, with 31,877, France, with 29,833 or Italy, with 27,945), a position that it continues to hold uninterrupted since 2001, and the third place in the sending of Erasmus+ students of Higher Education with 40,226 mobility (just behind France , with 47,811 and Germany, with 42,398). The effort and dedication of all parties involved makes it possible to share the spirit of the program in Spain.

If more data are observed at European level in mobility projects, 340,100 students and 69,700 teachers and staff for mobility within Europe participated in Higher Education, and 46,000 students and staff in mobility with the rest of the world; in Vocational Training, more than 170,000 mobility of students and teaching and trainer were carried out in Europe; in School Education, it connected to nearly 16,000 schools with Europe, with more than 140,000 students in school exchanges and more than 37,000 teacher and staff mobility; and in Adult Education, the participation of teachers in mobility was increased by 40%, with 8,467 participants.

During 2018, Spain received a total of 203.7 million euros of budget for both people mobility projects for learning reasons, as well as for cooperation projects, in the fields of education and training. This figure includes the co-financing of the Government of Spain in the total amount of EUR 30 million.
