According to Eurostat, 2.4% of Spanish people employed in the technology sector work. However, the European average is 3.5%. It is essential to cover this divide. The problem is that many young people think it's time to go to college. In fact, they can only learn almost everything.
Thinking about them, the Telefónica Foundation has brought School 42 (School 42) to Spain. School 42 is a free formula to learn programming. To do this, it is shared with other members and must go to a site where conferences and workshops are held. As it is said, the methodology is free, it lasts for three and a half years, there are no teachers, no timetables. The residence will open in September in the town of Las Tablas (Madrid), and every day of the week, every hour. Each one goes to his rhythm, without any rules.
The project wants to connect with future jobs and the new one has been presented in the capital and the registration period is open. To do so, it is enough to access its website, www.42madrid.com. The idea is to start educating up to 450 students, but the maximum capacity is 900 students. A few years ago many technologies ignored ignoring the curriculum, but asked the candidates to know what they were doing before the computer. So it's time to say goodbye to seculars. Interviews no longer have human resources, but technicians who measure the ability to solve real problems.
XXI. Century employability
"XXI. Century employability demands a new learning model due to a continuous digital revolution. " This is supported by José María Álvarez-Pallet, President of Telefónica, explaining the reasons for importing this new educational model. Before choosing School 42, they saw other projects in universities and schools. The president acknowledges that technology will dismantle millions of jobs, but he also recalls that he will create new ones. It also figures: 85% of 2030 jobs have not yet been invented, according to the Dell Technologies, directed by Institute for the Future (IFTF). Between 1970 and 2015, computers in the United States had lost 3.5 million jobs, but also created 19.3 million new jobs.
"This system violates the educational paradigm; Regulated does not attract some profiles. Learning to study here, "says Director of Educational Innovation at the Luis Miguel Olivas Foundation. The methodology is based on gamification and equals. It is divided into 21 levels and is based on the branches of the different programming branches. The first levels are common to all students and then each one of them focuses on specialty units: computer language, cybersecurity or systems. "It works collaboratively, inter pares, you need to solve your problems and run the tests ... 100% flexible and individual," continues Olivas. A Parisian pedagogical team has created 250 curricula projects, which are constantly updated.
From Paris, this academy jumped into other places. The academy is in more than 10 countries in the world. The first centers opened in Paris in 2013 and in Silicon Valley, United States. Afterwards, the initiative came to Belgium, Holland, Morocco, South Africa, Moldova, Ukraine, Russia and Finland. Soon, along with the Spanish center, the Telefónica Foundation will open another school in São Paulo (Brazil). "We do not want to reinvent the wheel, but bring it to success in other countries," explains Álvarez-Pallet. Madrid's headquarters will have clear spaces for computers, a meeting room and a hearing room for 150 people. There will also be rest and recreation rooms, a cafe and an e-Sports room.
