Telefónica has launched the booking website of Movistar Car (www.movistar.es/movistarcar), a new service that connects the car to the internet to make it safer and smarter. And it does so through a device that puts the driver himself in a simple way and an application that manages it. This service, with a high price of 20 euros, will be marketed from February 2019 with a monthly fee of three euros (VAT included) and will be available for all vehicles that have an OBD port, a connection that is present in gasoline cars manufactured since 2004 and in cars with diesel fuel since 2005.
Movistar Car, the router that allows the car to connect to the internet, has a series of features for safer, smarter and more efficient driving, comparable to the latest models of vehicles on the market.
Connectivity
The router generates a Wi-Fi network exclusively for the car (with 3GB per month), being able to connect up to five devices simultaneously to navigate without the need to consume data from the mobile tariff.
Security
If the car receives an impact, Movistar Car automatically sends a call to a platform that initiates the assistance protocol, including the management of the emergency service 112 if necessary.
Diagnosis
Facilitates the driver maintenance of the car to receive notices of possible breakdowns, in addition to being able to schedule reminders such as ITV or revisions.
Location
It allows to configure alerts to be informed of the movement of the vehicle, location or access the travel history. In addition, the driver can go to the destinations you select or have stored as favorites through the browser included in the application.
Saving
It facilitates to the driver, through agreements with third parties, exclusive offers in fuel, workshops, insurance and more advantages associated with the car and its displacements.
In order to have a car one hundred percent connected, you just need two simple steps: first connect the device to the OBD socket of the vehicle and then synchronize the App that the user must previously download to his mobile phone.
The tendency to connect cars is one of the fastest growing areas in the so-called Internet of Things (IOT). In the Things Matter report, the connected car stands out as one of the most relevant spaces in the connected life of people.
With the Movistar Car service, Telefónica expands its IOT experience - already connecting more than one million vehicles around the world - to its service offering for users. In this way, any car can become a connected car, with functionalities that make it the driving experience in safer, digital and efficient, at the same level as the latest models of high-end vehicles.
