On May 17th, the Mondragon University and the MONDRAGON Corporation awarded the best end-of-career projects in Basque in MONDRAGON's main venue in Mondragon.
In this year's edition, two Mondragon University projects have been awarded, both at the Polytechnic High School. The winner of the first prize was Markel Azkue Etxeandia, for his work on "Analysis of hybrid energy storage systems for industrial applications" by Ikerlan, and received a prize of 1,500 euros. The winner of the second prize was Nagore Etxebarria Altuna, for this project for FAGOR Arrasate: "Design of a press feed system that combines the loading format and the feed line". In this case, he was awarded a prize of 500 euros.
The awards were created eight years ago, at the initiative of the MONDRAGON Corporation's Basque Language Committee, to enable Mondragon University students to finalize their studies in order to enter the world of work in Basque.
The MONDRAGON Corporation embarked on this challenge in its Strategic Plan, and in 2010 set up a working group, comprising members of the Corporation and the University, to launch the awards.
A total of 582 projects have been developed at Mondragon University's Faculty of Business, the Polytechnic School and the Faculty of Humanities and Education. Of these, 187 were in Basque, 32%. In the MONDRAGON cooperatives, 120 projects have been elaborated and 22 projects developed in Basque have participated in the competition. All the projects presented are of a high technical level and have been awarded the best written in Basque.
The members of each faculty that make up the Jury were: Eneko Bidegain and Karmele Perez (HUHEZI), Rafael Altuna and Miriam Leibar (Business), Xabier Arrasate and Pedro Urteaga (Mondragon Polytechnic High School) and Ander Etxeberria (MONDRAGON Corporation). After careful consideration of the projects, the jury agreed on the rating and the winners.
