MONDRAGON, with startups

MONDRAGON, as a Corporate Partner and, together with its Promotion Center, has opened the doors of the Corporation to the 28 selected startup companies, in a session of interaction and contact with each of them.

“The aim is to raise awareness of the potential relationship that can be created between startups with our business and knowledge network. We have explained to them that we have an investment spirit to create strategic relationships and long-term relationships with them and that our participation in this phase is usually a minority, which favors investment with other companies that want to be present in startups. , with the maturation processes according to the industry they represent. All of this should be conducive to the development of these newly created businesses and will therefore have an impact on the MONDRAGON ecosystem, ”said Joseba Sagastiordia, Director of Business Promotion.

The BIND 4.0 Smart Industry Open Innovation Platform has selected a total of 28 startups to develop 33 Industry 4.0 projects in the sixth edition of the program, which began on 1 February.

In general terms:

  • Those selected will develop 33 projects in the smart industry, in collaboration with leading companies in clean and sustainable energy, food and health.
  • 67% will apply artificial intelligence, Big Data or the Internet of Things to create new innovative solutions.
  • 43% of startups are from the Basque Country, 7 from Bizkaia and 5 from Gipuzkoa.
  • BIND 4.0 is established as a dynamic open innovation platform that accelerates collaboration with startups and facilitates the introduction of new technologies, enabling companies to accelerate their digital transformation.

  • 37,809 people work in the Industrial Area, 38,523 in the Distribution Area, 2,220 in the Financial Area and 1,379 in the Knowledge Area.
  • 43.9% of our employees are in the Basque Country, 37.8% in the rest of Spain and 18.3% in the international market.
  • 2020 closed with sales of € 10,865 million.
  • One third of sales are made abroad, where 14,144 people work in 138 workplaces. - In 2020, 335 million euros were invested.
  • They have 545 patent families, 14 R&D centers and 2,384 researchers. In 2020, 180 million euros were invested in R & D & I.

MONDRAGON government, in short

  • The protagonists of MONDRAGON are its staff members. They have to pass a probationary period in the job, usually between six months and a year, after which the member and the cooperative are free to make or cancel the final entry.
  • MONDRAGON Corporation cooperatives maintain their own organizational structures and legal status.
  • In addition, there are Coverage Cooperatives or “Cooperative Cooperatives”. One of the best known is LagunAro, EPSV, which offers social and health coverage and social security.
  • MONDRAGON's cooperatives are divided into different divisions, depending on the field of work and parity. And there are four major areas: finance, knowledge, distribution, and industry. Each area has its own unique strategic framework.
  • The supreme body of each cooperative is the General Assembly, an expression of the social will expressed by all members.
  • The General Assembly elects the Governing Council, which is the governing and representative body of the cooperative.
  •  There is also a Board of Directors, which coordinates the tasks of the management team and advises the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors includes a manager and several directors. The manager is elected by the Board of Directors.
  •  The Social Council, on the other hand, represents the group of members before the internal instances of the cooperative. The number of members is determined by the number of members of the cooperative.
  • Finally, the Board of Trustees monitors compliance with the accounting aspects of the accounting process or others that may fall within its remit.
  • Finally, the strategic criteria for the administration and management of the Corporation were agreed at the Board of Cooperatives, made up of 650 members representing the cooperatives.
