The Governing Council, on the proposal of the Minister of Education, approved at its meeting on 5 October the order calling for grants for international mobility programs for university students in the 2021-2022 academic year and for universities located in the Basque Autonomous Community and higher arts and sports schools.
This call for grants amounts to 2,200,000 euros for the 2021-2022 academic year. Compared to previous academic years, the Department of Education has increased the match for this call by 350,000 euros. In fact, universities predict that the number of students participating in mobility programs could grow by 20%.
The European Union's financial contribution to the Erasmus + mobility is not enough to finance 100% of the costs; therefore, it is necessary to expand funding through this call. It also applies to certain university mobility destinations that are not included in the Erasmus + program; if so, they do not receive funding from the European institutions, so the need to fund people involved in these other mobility programs is also evident.
Recognizing the importance of participation in international mobility programs for the training of higher education students, the Department of Education is expanding this framework through this call. The ultimate goal is to improve the funding of the mobility of people affiliated to the Erasmus + program and other international mobility programs.
The total amount received for this call (€ 2,200,000) is therefore distributed as follows:
The organizations that will apply for these grants will be universities with international mobility programs for this academic year or schools of higher education in Arts and Sports; The final beneficiaries of the grants are students who take part in these mobility programs, as long as they have their administrative headquarters in one of the municipalities of the Basque Country. These students must be studying for an official university degree or a master's degree, as well as pursuing higher education in Arts or Sports in the 2021-2022 academic year.
In the 2020-2021 academic year, the Department of Education provided 1,160 grants for international mobility in the Basque Country through this call.
