II. ARNASETIK video creation competition is underway

After the successful event of 2022, the Arnasa Gara initiative has organized the second edition of the ARNASETIK video creation competition. The competition is aimed at young people between the ages of 10 and 16 in Basque-speaking areas, and their task will be to tell stories related to the Basque language. In addition to stimulating the creativity of the contestants, the aim of the competition is also to make people think about the language habits of young people in the breathing areas. Arnasa Gara is a project jointly promoted by the UEMA, the Basque Government and the Government of Navarre, and aims to publicize the importance of the breathing spaces of the Basque language, highlighting their contribution to the revitalization of the Basque language and the Basque people. The ARNASETIK competition is aimed at students from schools in the Basque language breathing areas as well as students from schools that receive students from the breathing areas.

The young people who will participate in the competition will be able to develop the work individually or in groups (with friends or with their classmates).

Three categories according to age

The second edition of the ARNASETIK video creation competition is also aimed at young people aged 10-16, and as in the first edition, three categories have been determined according to age, with different works to be presented in each category. The 5th and 6th grade students of VET will have to explain what their villages are like, explaining what can be done there and, most importantly, why they are suitable for improving the level of Basque. Works in this category can be presented through a promotional video or in free format (drawings, poems, verses, videos, songs...). Considering that many breathing areas are small municipalities, it is an interesting exercise to make them known.

As for the 1st and 2nd year secondary school students, they will have to explain the most special expressions of their villages and their meaning through a humorous video. This is an exercise to highlight the dialects that can be heard in the breathing areas, which aims to reveal the diversity of the Basque language.

Finally, 3rd and 4th year secondary school students will have to create a video in a creative way, highlighting Basque culture, music and initiatives.
The video models for each category as well as all the rules of the competition are visible on the website www.arnasagara.eus.

Each category will have a prize worth 500 euros, and the public's prize will also be distributed, giving a total of 2,000 euros. Each prize with a value of 500 euros in Irrisarri Land, in the Durango Azoka virtual store or EITB's Goaz! and see you win! it can be exchanged in the merchandising of the TV series.

Significant dates

On November 22nd, the prize distribution ceremony of the ARNASETIK video creation competition will take place, in the Zarauzko Modelo room. In this way, the creative works that the young people will do must be received before October 24.

In the meantime, you will have additional information on the website https://www.arnasagara.eus/arnasetik-videosormen-lehiaketa/ and on various social networks.

Promoted by Euskarabidea

The 'Arnasa Gara' initiative, Euskarabidek, a project jointly promoted by UEMA - the Community of Basque Municipalities and the Basque Government, has organized the second edition of the Breath of the Air video creation competition, after the successful event in 2022. This competition is aimed at young people between the ages of 10 and 16 in Basque-speaking areas (Basque-speaking municipalities) and their task will be to tell stories related to the Basque language. In addition to stimulating the creativity of the contestants, the purpose of the competition is also to provoke reflection on the language habits of young people in the breathing areas. Video creations can be submitted from October 1 to 24.

'Arnasa Gara' is a project promoted jointly by the three aforementioned organizations and aims to publicize the importance of the breathing areas of the Basque language, highlighting their contribution to the revitalization of the Basque language and the Basque people. The Arnasetik competition is specifically aimed at students from schools in the breathing areas of the Basque language as well as students from schools that receive students from the breathing areas.

The young people who will participate in the competition will be able to develop the works individually or in groups, with friends or with their classmates, if they wish.

We are breath

The main foundations of this initiative are the empowerment of the municipalities that are breathing spaces for the Basque language and their citizens. Thanks to a strong speaking community, municipalities that can naturally live in Basque have the designation of breathing space, and are essential for achieving a more Basque-speaking Basque Country. The Arnasa Gara campaign wants to make the people of the country more valuable, and would like to express their recognition for their attitude towards the well-being of the Basque language over the years. The promoters are UEMA, the Basque Government and the Government of Navarre.

These are the campaigns that have been developed:

  • 2019: Web series.
In 2019, the Trio Ituna developed the Arnasa Gara campaign together with UEMA. 'Prison' ser. produced by EiTB ie digital and village-to-village events were the heart of the campaign. In all, presentation events were held in 21 towns and more than 1,000 people joined, sharing concerns, thoughts and challenges.

  •  2021: What about everyday?
In 2021, Arnasa Gara launched a second campaign, with the aim of deepening the conclusions drawn from the previous campaign. 'We are breath - what about everyday?' the campaign elaborated eight specific ideas related to the breathing areas through a web sketch once a week, based on the conclusions drawn from the previous campaign. The goal is to take a step towards empowering the citizens of the breathing areas based on their problems and challenges and to emphasize the importance of the breathing areas in the revitalization of the Basque language.

  • 2022/2023: Breath of the air video creation competition.
Breathing is a creative video competition, aimed at young people from the municipalities that make up the breathing areas of the Basque language (from Primary 5 to Secondary 4) and aims to stimulate reflection on the language habits of young people in Basque-speaking municipalities. It is a competition adapted to today's young people's communication language and new technologies, and different techniques, treatments, genres, creative processes and topics will be covered. Thus, Arnaseti will become a showcase of audiovisual pieces and creative works produced in Basque. With the intention of inspiring creative visions for the future of young people, there will be the opportunity to participate in the competition in different ways and there will be prizes in different categories. This means that the tasks can be dealt with individually, in group work or inter-school.
