June Arrieta is a talented woman. And we're not saying just about ourselves. The same goes for Forbes, who has been in the Spanish list of 30 people with the greatest talent and 30 years of age, under 30 '. Five years ago, Jun founded Zocco Handmade, a company that manufactures and sells a large range of craft products, which makes them completely sustainable. But there is something more; For purchasing these products from Morocco or India, they give their creators, all women, a life and economic improvement. In this interview, Jun explains, among other things, what Zocco Handmade is, how they work, their projects, their feminist vision ...
How is it feeling that there is 30 in 30 list of 30 most talented young people in Forbes in Spain?
When I was just, I did not believe when they called me. Actually, it's a pride, even more because I met a person who came into this list last year, and it seemed to me something inaccessible, but when they called me on the phone I did not understand how they played with me and I was very proud of the air. In the end, this type of approval helps you to work hard and fight for someone who believes.
What is Zocco Handmade?
We produce Zoccon handmade products, which are crafted from different countries, but really, all of which aims to help women at risk of exclusion; first of all, through education, to gain autonomy; Secondly, we give them the opportunity to work without needing help and not being dependent on their husbands in 100%; And thirdly, in a way, what we want to show is that we can change things like a simple gauge like making a purchase, that is, the consumer's awareness that we can change many things through our consumerism.
What philosophy is behind the company? You are talking about women's empowerment ...
That's it. The product is just an excuse. We are doing this to create a work and education pathway for women who have never been able to learn and work. We are a community agent, the first thing to do is talk about families. We need to understand that women who are not married, who have not been able to work until now or who have not been able to work ... so, although it seems wrong, the husband must convince himself that doing so will bring home benefits.
What types of products do you have?
Everyone (laughter). Towels, sandals, suitcases, backpacks, notebooks, all kinds of bags, wallets, belts, camera straps, etc. It must be understood that this is a time for women who are never active and that professionalization of products is time-consuming, but they are 'crack' already.
And what do your products differ from others?
As for the material, all the dyes are natural and all cotton is organic ... and the most important thing for me, when you buy a product, you can get in touch with the history of the person that made it and get in touch with it. So, suddenly, this product is a human being that has made all the feelings of it, and when you receive it, I want to think that you get a little energy and that's what you are really capable of putting on your face and smile.
What are your future projects?
Many (laughter). Right now we are from Morocco because of the coincidences of life, but my dream project is here; that is, to form a group of women here. We're doing that. Initially it was due to be released in 2019, but things are delaying a little and we hope that the project for 2020 will be launched, and in this case, women from here will be using materials from here, using materials and techniques here.
And in terms of distribution, right now we sell mainly in Spain and some European countries, but we are increasingly having more presence in the United States, and our next goal is to expand the market in the United States.
As a woman and entrepreneur, how do you evaluate the feminist movement that is taking place in recent years around us?
For me, I'm even more interested in culture, which is essential. In my opinion, the importance of women's work right now is crucial and, above all, to make independence independent. Nowadays, and for the future, more than sex should be valued by one's own self, regardless of where it comes from, who it is, whether it is a woman or a man, and I think that this is an education that is going to be more and more a revolution. It has been proved that our brain works differently. It does not mean that it is better or worse; So there is a moment in which you say that it is good to make these two ways of looking and complementing each other so that we can achieve better society and do things differently, which is my point of view.
For you, what is the best and worst of being entrepreneurs?
I value a lot for myself; knowing everything I decide to do is for the benefit of the project and nobody told me that this would be the case. In addition, there was nothing growing to grow and now it is taking its size as a son (laughter). It's always the same, but since I was little bit I've grown up, it's growing and growing, it's taking a personal nature, and you see how people enter the group dream about the project ... and this makes you really happy. Actually, whatever happens to the project, any development, reward, or recognition of any woman in each country is directly linked to you. Then, the feeling that is given to you is incomprehensible. And also, freedom; movement and growth freedom. That is to say, the company is so small that right now all opinions are taken into account; It is very variable, easily variable, which is essential for self development. There is nothing left, but it is alive.
And the worst is instability. Economically, being a business, we are suffering from our tightness and the economic stability is not so great. The emotional connection is so great, that you spend so many hours in the end that you do not have a fixed schedule, you're up to date and, of course, I am the main responsible for solving everything. Then the personal burden is very large.
What would you recommend for young people who are thinking of starting a project?
I would tell him that I know it is very difficult, and when you are in front of a dashboard filled with drafts and dreams, it seems difficult to make the first step and believe that you can really, but I would say that they try. Right now, even more young people, we are at a perfect moment, because we do not have a lot of burdens, and I think that if we do not do it now, it will be difficult to brave in that future; And on the other hand, I think it's the best curriculum you can have in a way, because at the beginning you have to do everything for yourself.
