The Youth Camps of the Basque Government's Department of Equality, Justice and Social Policy's Youth Camps encourages young people from different backgrounds to participate voluntarily and generously in a social projection mission for 15 days. In 2022, the Directorate of Youth has widened the age ranges of the participants, and young people aged 14-17 in Gorliz will also be able to take part.
In the 2022 edition, 12 neighborhood workshops have been organized in the Basque Country, two of which will be for 14-17 year olds, in Gorliz and Arraia-Maeztu. The other two camps, in Muxika and Murueta, will be international in nature, with the participation of young people from the Basque Country and other countries. The rest of the camps will be attended by young people from the Basque Country and other Autonomous Communities. The places will be offered not only in the Basque Country, but also in other regions and countries. According to the rules of each camp, young people aged 18-30 can participate.
Another novelty within the Auzolandegiak program is the first auzolandegiak in the framework of the New Aquitaine-Basque Country-Navarre (ABEN) Euroregion. 25 young people from the three regions will take part in a camp in Lekaroz (Navarre) at the beginning of August.
Beatriz Artolazabal, the Basque Government's Minister for Equality, Justice and Social Policy, said: "Gazteak Martxan, Olabeaga"; in recent weeks, dozens of young people have been discussing the Basque Government's EGK, a cycle of cooperation between the Basque Youth Council and the Basque Youth. "
Beatriz Artolazabal added: "We have addressed the need to create new meeting places for young people and the elderly to the Council of Ministers of the European Union in Brussels, representing all the Autonomous Communities; we are working on programs to promote emancipation; "Maeztun and here, in Gorliz, in three neighborhoods. These two areas for minors will be a pilot program."
Nagore Utxupi, Mayor of Gorliz, said: In this way, the members of the group will get to know our town in depth and will be involved in the need to help take care of the environment in which we live. Gorliz has a population of 5,500 and quadruples in the summer. During these days in the neighborhoods, the Feast of Our Lady of Agirre and Elurreta will be celebrated. We have recently recovered beach sand and dunes. It has removed a road, reorganizing hospitality establishments. The beach has excellent access for people with reduced mobility ”.
The pre-registration period for the Basque Government's Auzolandegias will begin on April 1st and end on the 26th, and the draw for the selection of destinations will take place on the 27th. The registration rounds will be published on May 2, approximately, and the registration / selection of the place will take place from May 5.
This year, again, pre-registration and registration will be done through electronic means. Therefore, the Youth Directorate recommends obtaining a BakQ card (or any other electronic identification resource) for the entire process. The whole process can be done through the website www.gazteaukera.euskadi.eus.
In the Basque Country, a total of 295 places will be set up, with the participation of minors (14-17 years old) and the elderly (18-26 years old or 18-30 years old, in the case of people with functional diversity). The workshops will take place in the municipalities of the three provinces: Arraia-Maeztu, Laudio, Sopuerta, Gorliz, Lekeitio, Murueta, Bilbao, Muxika, Alonsotegi, Erandio, Lemoa and Bergara. To these places must be added the Euroregional neighborhoods.
With regard to national and international neighborhood workshops, the Youth Directorate is currently working on the exchange of places with other Autonomous Communities and INJUVE. All the information (updated by the neighborhood workshops) will be available on the following website: www.gazteaukera.euskadi.eus
Each of the twelve Auzolandegias in the Basque Country will focus on a specific topic, and the registered young people will work on this topic during their two-week stay. Topics will include the restoration of archeology and industrial heritage, the restoration of historical heritage and the environment, the social dynamism of the elderly, historical memory, and so on. They usually do themed work in the neighborhood in the morning, and additional activities in the evenings and on weekends. The animation team will propose activities that will allow the connection between all the participants and the community that hosts the neighborhood. There will also be recreational, cultural and sporting activities.
