New electric wheelchair

The popularity of electric vehicles has been on the rise in recent years around the world. Electric bicycles or scooters can be seen on every street today, and a recently announced new vehicle is an electric wheelchair, but not a simple wheelchair - in fact, it is not uncommon to see wheelchairs on the street today - but and a wheelchair similar to that of Professor Charles Xavier of the X-Men.

Where was this new vehicle introduced? There is a Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2020, in fact in Las Vegas. There, the North American company Segway unveiled its new wheelchair, christened the Segway S-Pod. The vehicle weighs 150 kilograms, has five wheels, a speed of 40 kilometers per hour and a range of up to 70 kilometers, according to Segway.

In terms of its design, its oval appearance stands out, as well as the wheelchair resemblance used by humans in the movie Wall-E.
Another notable detail of this electric wheelchair is that it has a self-balancing system, thanks to its two main rims (the other three are mostly used to support the S-Pod when this is turned off). This feature allows the Segway S-Pod to be controlled with just a small lever to change direction without the user having to move their body.
The aforementioned joystick can also be removed from the chair so that the electrical device can be controlled remotely.

According to the latest information, Segway aims to start selling the new electric chair in the third quarter of 2020 at a price not yet defined. This way, the first chairs will be available to buyers from 2021 onwards.

CES

What is CES? The Consumer Electronics Show - CES is an annual global gathering in Las Vegas for everyone who is advancing in the consumer technology business. It has been the basis of innovative and advanced technologies for 50 years. It is a global phase in which the latest generation of innovations can enter the market.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) owns and produces it, and attracts world business leaders and pioneering thinkers. It is held from January 7 to 10 this year.

The event is of paramount importance to the sector, as it has served as a platform for 50 years, where businesses are conducted, products are displayed and marketed, and partnerships are formed to address the most important issues facing the world today. It is also a meeting place for the most important firms in the industry to present the most important innovations for the next 12 months.

These are the most notable devices that could be seen briefly at CES 2020:

  • A vertical TV for the Z generation: ‘The Sero’ is a TV aimed primarily at the Z generation and mile-nnials. The device is developed by Samsung and has the ability to rotate horizontally and vertically, similar to a smartphone or tablet.
  • TV with thinner frames: It’s just 1.5 inches from Samsung and the frames are 2.3 millimeters. Thus, according to the company, the screen would fill 99% of the TV.
  • A super-fast monitor: Asian company Asus, along with Nvidia, introduced the ASUS ROG Swift 360 Hz. This monitor captures a figure of 360 Hz per second.
  • Laptop battery gamer with a battery life of 10 hours: The main problem for laptop gamers is their autonomy. So Asus showed off the Zephyrus G14. According to Taiwanese, this new device can withstand 10 hours of use.
