Forotech also hosts the Spanish edition of the Ada Byron International Award for Women in Technology to showcase women's work in science and technology, promote women's R&D careers and highlight the importance of technology as a value for economic growth and the future of society. The international importance of the award has been strengthened, as it will be awarded for the second time at the end of November in Córdoba, Argentina, taking over from last year's Mexican edition.
One of the innovations of Forotech 2020 was LabsLand, a startup that provides Internet access to educational labs for schools and universities. This technology allows schools and universities around the world to be connected remotely to the facilities and put online for the entire network. This project by a former student at the University of Deusto has laboratories in 14 countries on all continents.
Within Forotech 2020, schools (from Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, as well as from other Latin American countries) could enter the LabsLand competition to learn the basics of programming and robotics and test their codes on real robots from home, but located in Bilbao, South Africa, Costa Rica or Colombia.
ForoTech 2020 is sponsored by: Microsoft, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, Ejie (Basque Government IT Association), Emakunde, Bizkaia Provincial Council, Bilbao City Council, Bilbao, Ihobe, Vidrala, NTS, Spri Group, Innolab, DanobatGroup, Basque Government, Bilbao Ekintza, Fomento de San Sebastián and the Euskaltel Foundation; and other organizations: DeustoTech, Deusto FabLab, Deusto EarningLab, Innobasque, BasqueHealthCluster, Bilbao Youth Musicals.
