Applications to tell if there is a mishap on the road and where to park, and to notify cyclists of the hazardous situations; these are some of the services to be tested within the C-Mobile project in Bilbao. The project aims to develop cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) that can contribute to safer and more efficient urban mobility.
C-Mobile is a project with 36 partners across Europe, including technology centers, municipalities, universities and companies. Under the initiative, eight riders will be deployed in various European cities and regions to test various smart mobility services. Along with Bilbao, Barcelona, Vigo, Bordeaux, Copenhagen, Newcastle and Thessaloniki and the North Brabant region will participate.
In the case of Bilbao, the project is coordinated by the CEIT research center attached to the Basque Research & Technology Alliance consortium. In this pilot, five cooperative services will be installed to connect vehicles and road infrastructure. These applications will provide drivers with useful information about parking spaces in the urban area, as well as notices about works and notifications about congestion, accidents and other hazardous situations. In addition, an alert system will be developed for cyclists located in the blind area of the buses and an application that will help truckers plan their road route. The pilot has begun to be implemented in Bilbao, and is linked to the City of Bizkaia, Gertek, Kapsch, MLC, Dachser, DGT, San Sebastian City Council, Dbus and CTVi.
The C-Mobile project is co-funded by the European Union and will be completed in November 2020. C-ITS is a demonstration of the potential of mobility challenges in real-world urban areas - the goal of the consortium, by developing guides that will facilitate the transformation of new applications and the transformation of other cities.
Ceit
Ceit is a non-profit research center created in 1982 by the University of Navarra. The main objective of this research center is to implement contractual industry projects based on applied research, in close collaboration with the R&D departments of the companies.
Ceit promotes excellence in applied research by publishing non-confidential results, participating in technical and scientific forums, and providing doctoral training in industrial research projects.
Ceit seeks a stable partnership with companies in various sectors (including rail, aeronautics, automotive, health, production, energy or the environment), and strives to understand all aspects of its customers' business; always promoting high value-added solutions through applied research projects. In addition to providing innovative solutions to its clients, it also trains young researchers who are embedded in the world of work and add value to the production system.
The Center also shares a project based on the complementarity between research and teaching and the values of Christian humanism with the University of Navarra.
