The 10th Edition of the U.Lab course is underway, the process that will deal with entrepreneurship, personal development, connection and social innovation.
They will work as part of the U.Lab team to develop new projects, promote initiatives and spark inspiration and shared creativity among the participants.
The training started on the 25th of September as before, in the study and practice community created in Impact Hub Donostia (Tabakalera). It is a free course and it will also be possible to complete it with online training.
This learning and practice community will have two types of sessions: on the one hand, it will have sessions for active learning, on Wednesdays indicated by the calendar (see the calendar), from 17:00 to 19:00; and on the other hand, laboratory and practical sessions will be offered, so that the participants have the opportunity to discover and experience what they have learned in the first person.
Don't miss this opportunity to experience personal and professional transformation. On the 18th of September there was an online presentation session and on the 25th of September the course started at the Impact Hub in Donostia.
What is it?
Theory U was developed by Otto Scharmer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This theory immerses us in the process that fosters our connection to knowledge, compassion, and courage. The aim is, on the one hand, to delve deeper into the problems that exist in groups, organizations and society as a whole and, on the other hand, to delve deeper into one's abilities and hobbies to solve these problems.
Since 2015, every year from September to December, the Boston Presencing Institute offers an online course: U.Lab: Leading From the Emerging Future. Since its inception, Impact Hub Donostia has completed the U.Lab study and practice laboratory with this course.
In addition, Impact Hub Donostia has created and shared the U Kaxa, an educational and practical work kit, with a variety of useful resources for developing the U theory journey. Discover the U Kaxa and download the resources here.
Otto Scharmer
Otto Scharmer, author of Theory U and co-author of Leading from the Emerging Future: From Ego-system to Eco-system Economies, is an action researcher who creates innovations in learning and leadership through classes and programs. Through interventions with MIT, MITx u-lab, Presencing Institute, u-school for Transformation and with business, government and civil society organizations around the world.
Otto Scharmer, senior professor at MIT and founding president of the Presencing Institute, has spent the past 20 years helping leaders transform systems across sectors.
Through the best-selling books 'Theory U' and 'Presence' (the latter co-authored with Peter Senge and others), Otto introduced the innovative concept of "presencing" (learning from the emergent future). He also wrote 'Leading from the Emerging Future', which outlines eight acupuncture points for transforming our economy from egocentric to ecocentric. His latest book 'The Essentials of Theory U' (2018) summarizes the basic principles and applications of consciousness-based systems change.
He co-founded u-lab at MITx, which has activated a vibrant global ecosystem of transformative change with over 250,000 users in 186 countries. In collaboration with colleagues, he established global action learning labs for UN agencies and SDG leadership labs for UN country teams in 26 countries, supporting cross-sectoral initiatives to address emergency humanitarian crises.
Otto was born and raised near Hamburg, Germany. Otto's early experiences on his family's farm profoundly shaped his outlook. From his father, who was a pioneer of regenerative agriculture, Otto realized the importance of the vital quality of the soil in organic farming, which encouraged reflection on social areas as the basic conditions for visible transformations to emerge. Like a good farmer who takes care of the soil, Otto believes that responsible managers should take care of the social area in which they operate. He emphasizes that transitioning our economic operating systems from extractive to regenerative requires innovations in leadership support structures to shift the mindset from ego to ecology. The goal of the U-school for Transformation is to build this infrastructure.
Otto earned a diploma and PhD in economics from Witten/Herdecke University in Germany. He is a member of the United Nations Learning Advisory Council for the 2030 Agenda, the Club of Rome and the World Council for the Future. He has won the MIT Jamieson Prize for Teaching Excellence and the Leonardo European Prize for Corporate Learning. In 2021, he received the Elevating Humanity Award from the Organizational Development Network.
