On December 4th, Telefónica presented the application 'Breaking Barriers' aimed at people with disabilities to see and hear. By means of subtitle subtitles (both in text and in braille), they can understand everything that people with this type of disability have in real time.
The app has been developed by two students of the LAB initiative Talentum at Telefónica, over a period of one year. Initially, Breaking Barriers was a solution aimed at people with hearing impairments so that they could be easily facilitated in the academic field. The goal was to be connected by the teacher and the students through technology.
However, as with the latest improvements, as a function of converting the Arabic language into Braille, the concept has changed and Breaking Barriers is an application to integrate all kinds of students today.
The use of the application is very easy and it is possible to choose two ways to use it. In the first, in the role of the teacher, it is only enough to have a Wi-Fi network and connect it to the person who transcribes or subtitles his speech.
After signing in, a private room is created with an alphanumeric password that will be shared when people who use the role of the attendees listen to that school. In this case there may be only one teacher role but there may be several attendees. To do so, it is only necessary to connect to the same session.
The second option is to use individual mode when the user needs to improve communication with their environment. In this way, the application can be used daily, allowing the person who uses it to answer the keyboard on his screen, or the Braille line according to his choice.
Breaking Barriers has thus become an incentive for those who see and listen to disabilities. It can now be downloaded for free in Android and iOS applications.

Breaking Sound Barriers is a tool that can be personalized, with voice recognition in several languages. The student allows questions and answers to be made and the teacher can get the displayed content through images and subtitles. The application is a storehouse of apunts, which allows you to set filters and access to the forums.
From the teacher's perspective, the application offers the following options: manage students, rooms and subjects; ask questions; Subtitles sent and entered into forums, among others.
As it has been said, Breaking Sound Barriers has developed a LAB of the Telefónica Talentum program aimed at promoting young talent, with the help of Adecco Foundation and Ericsson. The team has been formed by five young professionals, specializing in Engineering, with the help of a senior mentor, who have developed an application for six months. Both mentors and young professionals, mostly from the Technical School of Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, come from the Technical School of Higher Education.
Francisco Mesonero is the general director of the Adecco Foundation. In his words, in his company "they are very proud of participating in projects that can improve the lives of people with disabilities, in the development of competence and transformation, which promote social and labor integration."
