HMD Global is the manufacturer of these phones, known as dumb phones. The population between 20 and 30 years old who seek to make changes to "improve their mental health", according to the influencer José Briones.
In the United States, mobile phone sales rose in 2022 for HMD Global, with tens of thousands sold every month. According to Counterpoint Research, nearly 80% of feature phones sales in 2022 came from the Middle East, Africa and India. But some see that figure is changing, as a number of young people in the United States return to silly or minimalist phones.
Companies like Punkt and Light respond to this trend by selling devices aimed at those who want to spend less time with the phone and social networks. In addition, on YouTube, more and more content creators are promoting these phones.
"What we are trying to do with the Light phone is not to create a stupid phone, but a more intentional phone - a premium and minimalist phone - that is not intrinsically anti-technological," says Joe Hollier, co-founder of Light. "But it's about consciously choosing how and when to use which aspects of technology add quality to my life".
