A new platform was created a month ago that allows you to transcribe and subtitle Experts, videos and audios in Basque and Spanish. It has already had more than 500 users this time with new tools. To create experts, the Elhuyar R&D team has used artificial intelligence and the most innovative language technologies to spread the Basque language, a tool that was previously limited to certain languages.
Aditu is a platform that automatically transcribes and subtitles audio and video, both live and in pre-recorded archives, in Basque and Spanish. Its uses are becoming more varied in this first month: with this app, journalists transcribing interview recordings, people with hearing problems and subtitling a lecture or song, people with mobility difficulties, people who can’t write, and so on. There are also those who dictate reflections for a report while driving the car so that the Experts can automatically transcribe it in the meantime.
Elhuyar has worked for several years to build the neural networks behind this application so that these networks can carry out their learning or training process through thousands of data, and finally create an interface that allows this tool to be easily used.
The aim of this tool is to spread digital resources to languages such as Basque. According to Jon Abril, General Manager of Elhuyar, these tools, which are adapted to languages such as Basque, are "outside the strategies of the technological giants and the interests of the markets". Now, the transcript of news and subtitles, the transcript of a documentary or a town hall meeting can be done here. The service is free in trial mode.
Igor Leturia, head of speech technology at Elhuyar, explained that the challenge for them now is twofold: on the one hand, to make improvements, with noises with noise, or with different dialects of Basque, for example. On the other hand, he recalled that "the interaction between people and machines is increasing, and in many cases this interaction is done through voice, such as Sir or Alexa virtual assistants or voice-driven 4.0 industry machines". This opens the door for the integration of Experts into products or systems, such as home automation, so that the desired language can be used, in this case Basque or Spanish.
What do they offer? State-of-the-art transcription technology, tailored to customer needs and respecting data confidentiality.
