12,073 high school students of the Basque Autonomous Community and 849 who completed a higher vocational education cycle began the University Entrance Evaluation (USE) on Wednesday, June 5, at the University of the Basque Country. The total, 13,433, was 0.2% higher than last year, when 13,401 were enrolled to take the USE. The increase in VET students is noteworthy, as they went from 815 to 849; and, that is, they were 4% more.
If we divide those high school and VET students who took the USE by campus, 1,762 did it in the Álava Campus, 6,291 in Bizkaia and 4,786 in Gipuzkoa; another 83 students were not attached to a campus. In terms of language, 77.21% of high school students (9,322 students) took the test in Basque, and 22.79% (2,751) in Spanish. As for the students who completed a higher vocational education cycle, 55.48% (471) took the test in Basque, and 44.52% (378) in Spanish.
Finally, 57.84% (7,474) of the students who appeared for the University Entrance Assessment were women and 42.16% (5,448) were men. To these 12,922 people must be added 511 students from previous academic years, who were presented to specific subjects to improve their grades.
Students with special needs
703 students with special educational needs from schools in the Basque Autonomous Community needed adaptations to take the University Entrance Assessment Test. Regarding the number of students of the previous year (598), this academic year's applications increased by 17.6%.
Adaptations for the USE test are a right recognized by the current regulations, and this measure guarantees that all students have the same opportunity to take the test.
All adaptations in the access tests are managed by the Services for Persons with Disabilities of the UPV/EHU following the established procedure.
Tests and results
As usual, the USE will take place over three days, from Wednesday, June 5, to Friday, June 7. Regarding the exams, the flexible structure created during the pandemic has been maintained. The only novelties in this edition are the following: applying the Organic Law of Education (LOMLOE), this year students will be able to choose to take the Spanish History exam or the History of Philosophy exam, and in addition, the number of optional and modality subjects has increased to 30 lessons, which means one more jury has led to the formation.
