The future of mobility
Among the most pressing problems facing cities around the world is the challenge of balancing an increasingly urbanized and populated planet with the need to move all its inhabitants.
This is the main objective of the Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress, an event organized in collaboration between Fira Barcelona and EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Union's Institute for Innovation and Technology. In its second edition, Tomorrow.Mobility promoted the design and adoption of new models of sustainable urban mobility.
The sessions included in the conference program include, among other things, the adoption of public transport as a global priority in the context of rising energy prices, the use of low-emission zones, electrification and micromobility to achieve carbon neutrality as soon as possible, and the safe development of urban air mobility (UAM). Among the more than 80 experts who participated in the discussion were: Kelly Larson, director of road safety and drowning prevention at Bloomberg Philanthropies; Karen Vancluysen, Secretary General of POLIS; Marco te Brömmelstroet, Professor of the Future of Urban Mobility at the University of Amsterdam; and Thomas Geier, Head of Research and Policy at the European Metropolitan Transport Authority.
Towards inclusion
A smart city is not only forward-looking and sustainable, but also fully inclusive and leaves no one behind. At the Smart City Expo World Congress, they wanted to set an example by integrating inclusion in everything they do, as well as creating a space for discussion to build a fairer and more equal society, through a specific congress theme: Life and Inclusion. Thus, in 2019, an initiative that has actually been going on for several years was named: Towards Inclusivity.
