As it usually happens at the beginning of the year, Samsung has renewed its top category of mobile phones, with three models that want to dominate the Android premium range: the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the Samsung Galaxy S24+ and the one we will talk about, the Samsung Galaxy S24. The smallest of the three may seem small in comparison, but it's not: it may be the smartest choice.

Design: More iPhone than ever

When holding the phone for the first time, it feels like holding an iPhone 15. And Samsung has evolved the Samsung Galaxy S23 by eliminating any curves at the edges, keeping straight, sharp, annoying. If you held the two phones up in the blind, it would be hard to tell this Samsung Galaxy S24 apart from the aforementioned iPhone 15. At least without touching the back, because the camera module is distinctive.

It is very solid in the hand, it exudes the highest quality that seems to be found in a phone of this level, the aluminum perfectly embraces the glass on both sides without visible defects in the joints and the color is very well achieved. The buttons are on the right, at the usual height and easy to press with one hand (the volume up button requires some effort). The bottom edge houses the dual nano SIM tray (there's an option for an eSIM), the USB C port, and the stereo speaker output.

The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S24 are very compact, as already mentioned in the introduction. This makes it easy to hold the phone for long periods of time, always with a clear risk: slipping. The straight edges don't help the grip, nor does the polished rear glass. In return, it offers dust and water resistance with IP68 certification.

The rear face is completely clean except for the area where the targets are. They protrude from the body about a millimeter and a half, something that favors the retention of dust in that area. The gold color of my Samsung Galaxy S24 does not reflect dirt or fingerprints.

The solidity and high-quality feeling offered by the mobile underline the premium category within it. In addition, both sides are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 tough glass. It doesn't have the anti-reflective features of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra's Gorilla Glass Armor, although it should offer great protection from minor scratches and bumps.

Screen: The panel that gives the quality of each pixel

It is more than clear that Samsung knows how to make OLED screens, since it is the company that manufactures the most panels and the other brands, including Apple, turn to it. And with the evolution from the S23 to the S24, Samsung has decided to end one of the main differences with the Ultra models: finally, there is an LTPO panel with a variable refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hz in most cases."

The display of the phone is a delight in all conditions, there is nothing else to say: according to the tests carried out, it is the best panel tested on a device of this size. Fluidity adapts to needs, the Samsung Galaxy S24 is very fast when moving, animations, jumping between applications is a joy. All with perfect response to touch.

Brightness is another point where the phone stands out: as you can see in the photos, the extra brightness provided by the panel makes any content visible even in direct sunlight. And without spoiling the contrast contours at maximum brightness, the automatic levels are also very accurate. Of course, a minimum level has been found that is too bright for total darkness situations; which is fixed by turning on the "Extracted" mode of accessibility tools under "Visual improvements".

By manually adjusting the brightness, the Galaxy S24 supports an additional peak that works perfectly in direct sunlight.
