The City Council of Pozoblanco in the province of Córdoba announced last September 15 the main lines of the Smart City Pozoblanco plan. With this initiative, the town will be committed to digitalisation and technology, acting in a transversal way in all local services and public spaces.
Specifically, this innovation will affect traffic planning and improvement, the control and use of water consumption in parks, the installation of public Wi-Fi in the town or the consultation of the availability of car parks.
Mayor Santiago Cabello explained that this is a line of work that has been working for a long time and in different fields, but from now on it will be promoted in a unified way and under a common brand.
The councilor recalled the commitment to a new Pozoblanco, "stimulating, open, connected to the world and one of our priorities since the creation of this governing group; we believe it should be a fundamental line of obvious political action, not only in the future but also now. because new technologies are essential to revitalize the economy, consolidate the population and combat depopulation in a time of crisis like the present. "
All of this, according to Cabello, will help improve different areas of municipal life. For example, it is expected to promote sustainable development, increase the quality of life of citizens on a daily basis, improve the active participation of citizens and achieve a more efficient use of available resources.
The mayor of Pozoblanco added that these advances based on technological development "should be made without losing our history and our valuable roots, because digitization also allows us to better understand our past and expand our heritage and traditions."
Economic Development Councilor Eduardo Lucena explained that with this project "we have the necessary future challenge for any territory". To this end, as a focus of funding, the City Council has announced that it will participate in the Andalusian Government’s call to promote the AndaluciaSmart project, which aims to contribute to the process of smart growth in Andalusian cities and municipalities.
Lucena said that the Smart City project's reference space will be the new Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, "a space for business development as well as a space based on the dissemination and training of new technologies, a framework for different economic sectors and populations."
Other areas of this project include traffic planning and improvement, control and use of water consumption in public facilities and parks, energy efficiency in public lighting and municipal facilities or digitization of the access and reservation system for sports and cultural facilities.
Added to this is the installation of public Wi-Fi as a digital digitization engine in the town or the increase in e-government. Eduardo Lucena explained that the Smart City Pozoblanco plan also includes the development of applications to control the availability of car parks and a system that will serve to promote sustainable mobility with the use of bicycles or electric scooters.
According to the councilor, another key trade sector will be in the project, as a digital promotion system and consumer bonds will be implemented, as the City Council will take part in the economic recovery plan promoted in the current crisis context.
