When faced with the dilemma of when to give children a mobile phone, the answer depends on maturity, needs and price. Therefore, when a phone appears with the right features for first-time users and a competitive price, the temptation is great. And that's the case with the Poco C65.
We are talking about the latest smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi. Here, the first thing the Asian company has achieved is efficiency. A 6.74-inch LCD screen with 600 nits of brightness (good for bright environments), a 90Hz refresh rate (very good for the range), and a conventional, non-innovative design.
Its big asset in the sector is to compete with a 5,000 mAh battery (similar to the high-end) and a camera that is unusual in this price range. The flaw (even for that price you can't ask for much) is that its "fast" charge is 18 W: it doesn't matter what charger we have; it won't go any faster.
To this must be added the Helio G85 processor and a memory configuration of up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. good All this contributes to the average performance... considering that we are talking about phones under 200 euros: this means a plastic body and a design that is not elegant.
As for the cameras, we have a 50 megapixel main sensor, a 2 MP macro and an 8 MP front lens. It also has a depth of field sensor that will be used for focus and portrait mode. Are the cameras good? Again, they're among the best in the price range, even if it's not a phone meant for social media or photography. It works well in the right lighting conditions, but if we push it a little, its shortcomings are noticeable, for example in night photography.
If we could improve on something, it would definitely be better loading speed and better photography software. But for this price, it's basically what a high-end shoe is worth. But its big advantage is its limited competition in its price range, because of the features it offers, the simple design and the pretty striking colors (black, blue and purple).
Without a doubt, it is a very competent entry-level mobile that will last about two or three years, depending on the treatment it receives (drops, shocks, etc.), rather than on market updates: its plastic materials determine a lot. For the price of 149 euros, it is one of the most interesting phones as a first device.
The POCO C65, with prices of 150 or 170 euros, is an entry-level range, with features such as the large screen, careful design and battery, which compensate for the lower-than-expected photos.
Strong competition between brands does not only occur in the mid-range mobile market. Competition and variety of options also occur in the entry-level range, even in the cheapest devices, in terms of quality and price. Xiaomi is placed with Redmi and POCO in this ranking.
The main incentive of the POCO C65 is its price (not including promotions): 150 euros in the 6 GB + 128 GB version and 170 euros in the 8 GB + 256 GB version. Its second configuration, which is not as widespread as desired in the channel, already announces that it is a model that wants to incorporate the details that give a plus, the extras that prevail over the unconvincing aspects.
POCO C65, design
It shows a simple but careful design with a refined touch, thanks to the subtle gloss and finish of the back, at least in the elegant and simple black color. Also available in special purple and blue variants, it features good frames and a change to the classic and distinctive POCO large plate for cameras, divided into three parts to give a touch even though it's all in one piece.
It looks like a big phone, but it feels good to hold, it's not too thick (8.09 mm) and it doesn't feel heavy in the hand at 192 grams.
POCO C65, big screen
The aforementioned size includes a large screen, 6.74 inches, a feature that improves the viewing experience. LCD type, its resolution does not reach the FHD+ canon and remains at HD+. To compensate, consider 90 Hz smoothness. It comes with a black notch for the front camera.
The display isn't bad at all for the range that the POCO C65 operates in, which doesn't mean that a better resolution or a less thick bezel at the bottom takes away from it, and a higher level of brightness would mean a leap.
Photos with the Poco C65 and its 50 MP camera
The phone has a claimed 50MP primary camera, in the usual mid-range role. However, the part that puts it in doubt is the photography, with results that are below expectations even when using high resolution.
