Artificial intelligence for everyone. This seems to be the goal that Oppo has set, as it presented the phones of its new Reno 12 5G series in Ibiza for the European market. Cell phones from this Chinese brand have been characterized by offering excellent value for money. But now, after the main manufacturers opted for AA, it has also decided to enter its mid-range, so that it can also fight against flagship manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung or Google itself. All this in order to offer users a variety of innovative tools and to enable the implementation of all kinds of complex tasks in the shortest possible time.
The phones in question are the Reno 12 5G and the Reno 12 Pro 5G. Like their predecessors, the phones in this range do not disappoint in almost any aspect. Its futuristic design should be highlighted in a highly resistant glass alloy, which they say will protect the terminal from drops of up to 1.2 meters, pressure and water.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of glass on the back, there is no possibility of wireless charging. But the good news is that the terminals have really fast charging to make up for this shortcoming. Specifically, 80 Watts to charge its 5,000 mAh batteries, which allows it to go from 1% to 32% in just ten minutes, and to 100% in 46 minutes. It's not the fastest charger on the market, but the company has promised an optimal battery life of four years, thanks to the charging optimization process.
Minimal differences
Otherwise, the differences between the two models are minimal. It is true that the Reno 12 Pro has a new screen, Infinite View, which combines a curved panel without giving up the grip of a flat one, thus avoiding the accidental touches that are so common in this type of screen. Otherwise, both phones have a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen size and a 120Hz refresh rate, capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors.
Another difference is that the screen of the smallest of the family is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, while its older brother uses Victus 2, one of the most resistant glass on the market, which makes it almost immune to scratches and provides great protection against falls. In terms of brightness, they reach 1,200 nits, which, according to what has been verified, is enough to view different content in full sunlight.
It is also worth noting OPPO's Splash Touch technology, which allows the screen to work well even when wet or when the user's hands are wet. Something very interesting now that summer is coming and we use cell phones at the beach. In this sense, both terminals offer a high resistance to dust and water, with an IP65 rating, although it is not completely waterproof. In any case, both the speakers, the USB-X ports and the SIM card tray have been reinforced so that they do not suffer damage.
Oppo has paid special attention to the importance of the most economical series of its extensive mobile portfolio, having tools with high artificial intelligence. This is the case of AI Toolbox, with the help of Google Gemini 1.0 Ultra, which takes advantage of powerful recognition powers to understand the content displayed on the screen and recommend functions to the user accordingly, such as rapid creation of social content, information grids or summaries for long articles. Also worth mentioning is its AI Recording Summary, for making text summaries of a voice recording and organizing them into notes, with lists of tasks, times, locations and other details highlighted and formatted to improve readability.
5X optical zoom
And let's not forget the interesting cameras considering the price range of the terminals. Mainly the main lens, a 50 MegaPixel Sony LYT-600 sensor with full-pixel autofocus and OIS, which provides faster and more stable focusing for sharper shots. The results are very good both day and night, something unusual for phones in this range.
It has a wide angle of 8MP, which does its job while lacking a bit more resolution. However, thanks to O-ppo's processing, the colors and sharpness of the images captured with this lens stand out.
Of course, the top model has a 50MP telephoto lens that allows for 5X optical zoom, and a 20X digital one with visible seams, while its younger brother includes a 2MP macro lens for photos of other microscopic insects. to do In addition to the improved flash, the phones enable 4K video recording at 30 fps, available on both the rear and front cameras.
