Montblanc Summit 2+, a watch-shaped mobile

Using a Montblanc Summit 2+ is like carrying a mobile phone on your wrist. This luxury watch, which costs 1,190 euros, is used to check WhatsApp notifications, emails or Twitter mentions. As well as controlling life signals such as heartbeat. And with Google Assistant, too, by sending messages and making calls.

All this without having to be near a ‘smartphone’ and with a Swiss-branded fascination. It is especially a stylish device. In a way, it is reminiscent of a traditional high-end analog clock, even though it has machinery inside that turns it into a smart device. It consists of a 43.5mm stainless steel case and an interchangeable strap that can be leather or rubber on sports models.

One day battery

The battery is 440 mAh and lasts only one day with normal use. That is, it is a watch that lasts as long as a mobile. The company says it can take three to five more days if the smartwatch function is turned off and time is shown with a simple wrist gesture. The device has a charging cradle that charges the battery in just over an hour.

Where am I?

The Montblanc Summit 2 + has a speedometer, altimeter, barometer, compass, GPS and heart rate. With these tools, which can be used with the Toolbox application, the user can check at any time where they are, what speed they are transporting, what they are at or what the atmospheric pressure is. It has a 1.28-inch amoled screen made of curved sapphire crystal. There, you can choose from a variety of designs: from displaying all kinds of markers and imitating analog clocks to the most modern sports.

In total, there are more than 1,000 clock face combinations to customize the background, needles, or information that appears on the screen at all times. The device has three buttons on the right side: a rotating crown and two additional programmable buttons.

The first step in getting started with your watch is to download the Wear Os app from Google and link it to your phone. To give your phone, regardless of your phone, 4G connectivity and make calls, you need to set up an Orange eSIM on an Android. This operator has marketed a smart watch in Spain 24 times a month for 39 euros.

During the tests, it was impossible to configure the eSIM with the Xiaomi phone (Mi 9T). However, the process with Google Pixel has been intuitive and easy. The Montblanc Summit 2+, inside the Snapdragon 3100 processor, works well. It’s a very useful day-to-day to keep you from being addicted to your mobile, performing small actions, and being notified if you’re going outside or playing sports. The watch allows you to quickly and easily check a phone call or notification. It also suggests smart replies or emojis to reply to messages. It’s also possible to type on the keyboard, as it works very well in small print, and with your voice.

Dictation actions

The voice is, in fact, the easiest way to operate the clock, as it has a microphone and a speaker. Simply press the button and give the order and the Google Assistant will start working. “Call home,” “wake me up in three hours,” or “take me to the nearest supermarket” are some of the requests that can be made directly to your device. The wizard can send messages, set timers or alarms, report weather, perform calculations, define words, or perform translations.
