Salamanca, the city of "opportunities"
Salamanca wanted to be a city of opportunities and once again took part in the eighth edition of the Olé Startup Forum, held from September 5 to 7 at the Congress Palace, with the presence of hundreds of people from 120 countries, 1,500. startups and innovative SMEs, 900 speakers and more than 300 corporations and investors.
With the aim of promoting the city's entrepreneurial culture, Mayor Carlos García Carbayo signed a collaboration agreement with Óscar González, director of the General Fund of Usal, and Emilio Corchado, CEO of Startup Olé Accelerator. This made a contribution of 50,000 euros for different actions. Among them, the financing of actions for promotion, communication, advertising or marketing, protocol or the transfer of spaces for exhibition and networking activities, such as San Blas Peñuelas Plaza.
The General Foundation of the University, for its part, encouraged the participation of municipalities in the round table of public institutions and embassies, as well as the participation of entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and the self-employed. At the same time, he made an exhibition available to the City Council and promoted the city in all the dissemination and communication tasks of the event around the world, Ical announced.
"This forum helps to give visibility to one of Salamanca's great goals, which is to advance its international projection as a destination for business investment and as a city of talent", the mayor pointed out, and emphasized once again, at this time, where economic and financial uncertainty which dominate, Salamanca is once again a city of opportunities.
The proof of this, Carbayo recalled, is the development of the Peña Alta industrial sector, where the establishment of new companies has already been confirmed, and also the development of the logistics environment with the Dry Port, strengthening trade relations with Portugal and the rest of Europe.
The mayor also confirmed his commitment to the knowledge industry, working from the first step through the innovative Tormes+ Center for Entrepreneurship and Training, through which more than 300 people have passed since its opening.
And since the beginning of the mandate, more than 3,700 companies and 33,000 citizens have benefited from the programs promoted by Economic Promotion, such as coworking, Training á la Carte or Active Card.
The city council accepted the support of this event "as an effective tool to promote innovation with the challenge of consolidating and promoting business activity in the technological field, in addition to the existing fabric, and helping to consolidate the population, especially the youth".
