Meta warns of use for ChatGPT scams: "It's the new cryptocurrency"

The emergence of tools such as ChatGPT has caused great social impact. Artificial intelligence causes a lot of debate because of the uses it can be used. After receiving criticism from various parties, on this occasion it was Meta, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg, who questioned the use of this tool.

According to a safety report published by the company, scammers are using this platform to access foreign devices. The team that conducted this study claims to have found hacker software that offers ChatGPT based tools through browser extensions and online app stores that contained malware.

In this line, I equated this phenomenon with the increase of scams through cryptocurrencies. "From the maleker's point of view, ChatGPT is the new cryptocurrency," said Guy Rosen, Meta Information Security Director, according to CNN. The company reports that they have investigated and taken "measures against malware strains that take advantage of people's interest in ChatGPT to deceive them and install malware that pretends to provide AI features."

In fact, they have reported that since March they have blocked the sending of more than 1,000 malicious websites, which claimed to be related to ChatGPT or related tools. "Malware operators, like spammers, try to cling to hot and popular issues to get people's attention," Rosen said.

Zuckerberg changes his mind

In 2015, Zuckerberg decided not to bet on virtual and augmented reality, rather than AI. "Succeeding in AR/VR is what has the most potential for the next five to ten years," said Internal Tech Mails. A forecast that has not been fulfilled if we look at the economic problems that this investment to Meta.

Meanwhile, the use of tools like ChatGPT is gaining users and new features are discovered. That is why Zuckerberg's company has had no choice but to bet on AI, and last March it filtered that they were developing their own platform, LlaMa. At first, Meta claims that it is only used by academic researchers, government organizations or industry labs to prevent the misuse they criticize.
