"Dual VT is the best link between school and business"

Recent research shows that women are increasing their presence in industrial studies. María Bueno is an example of this. This young man from Navarre completed his studies in Industrial Mechatronics and then went to the Volkwagen School in Navarre to study for a dual postgraduate course. There he receives theoretical training, which he then applies to work in a workshop. Maria is “very happy” with this experience and hopes to continue in this world throughout her professional career.

You studied a Higher Degree in Industrial Mechatronics. How did you decide to sign up there? Have you always been interested in that world?
I was clear in high school that I wanted to do a Higher Degree, but I didn’t know which one to choose. My father and my uncle are primary school teachers at Virgen del Camino (the school where I studied) and they were the ones who talked to me about this degree. The moment I saw what the degree was about I knew that was what I wanted to learn. I have been interested in these topics since I was a child.

Then you joined Volkswagen School to learn a Dual Education. Can you tell us about your experience as a student in a Dual VET?
This year I’m doing a graduate degree at Volkswagen Academy in Dual mode. At the Academy we do the training section through courses, classes, lectures, etc. about the various technologies that exist in the workshops. And the practical side, where we apply what we have learned and continue to educate, we do in different factory workshops, in my case in the Painting nave.

What do you think are the advantages of learning a Dual VT?
This is the best connection that exists between the school and the company, as you gradually enter the job market while you receive your education.

This is the best connection that exists between the school and the company, as you gradually enter the job market while you are receiving education.

Do you think that learning a Dual VT makes it easier to enter the job market?
I think it can help you quite a bit, because the company itself can see your learning process and is responsible for educating you.

How important do you think it is to know foreign languages today?
I think English or German can open a lot of doors for you. It makes it easier for you to find work. Many companies nowadays need to travel, and for that you need to know other languages.

How is your experience as a Volkswagen Navarra employee? What do you do? How do you feel?
I am very happy. I think educating in a company like this is a tremendous opportunity. For two weeks I have been at the Academy educating tutors or staff coming to give lectures, and for the third week I am in a painting workshop with maintenance officers.

Recent research shows that girls are increasing their presence in industrial studies. How do you value this event?
He values it as something optimistic, as it shows that social barriers are falling apart. I hope and think that this data will go up. One day these stereotypes will completely disappear and we will not be surprised to see a woman in this type of work.

Do you think it is more difficult for a woman to get into certain sectors, such as yours?
I think these stereotypes or prejudices are gradually disappearing. Now, when a woman is seen in a job that was first filled by men it's not "what does this do here?" asking the question. I haven’t been treated differently in my work environment for being a woman, but I know that there are a lot of women who don’t have the good fortune and have to fight all these stereotypes. I think I still have a long way to go.

How would you encourage women who want to work in sectors that have traditionally been for men to continue working with their dreams there?
No dream should be prevented from being a woman or a man. The most important thing is the attitude and the spirit you put into it.

How would you encourage young people to study Dual VET?
I would say it’s a great way to get to know the work environment, as well as the best way to educate. I would encourage people to enroll in a VT, not close their doors to continue learning and provide you with an education that a college career can’t give you.

What projects do you have? Where would you like to go?
I’m finishing my graduate degree at the Academy in June, and I’d love to be a part of this company.
