If you're one of those people who take the subway instead of walking so they can get there three minutes earlier, these apps might change your mind. We've already warned you that you're not going to get rich, but it wouldn't hurt to earn something for walking, right?
One such app is called WeWard and it was created in France, but it already works in Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany and the UK. And how much will you earn? Well, profits depend on many things. First of all, it depends on your level. If you pass the first level it will give you Ward 1 every 1500 steps. At the second level, every 3000 steps will give you 2 more Wards. And so on, as you go through the levels. It doesn't matter how many Wards you earn, because the conversion is different in each country. In Spain, Italy and Germany, for example, you will receive €0.005 for every 1 Ward. This means that when you reach 100 Wards you will earn 50 cents. With 300 Wards you can buy a coffee! On the other hand, in France and Belgium, a Ward is equivalent to €0.007. And in the UK, it will set you back £0.005 for one.
Note that you can earn a maximum of 25 Wards per day, but there are several ways to earn more Wards. For example, challenges: if the app asks you to take 5,000 steps in 30 minutes, you can earn 20 Wards. Another option is video ads: for every video you watch, you earn 1 Ward. You can also answer personalized surveys or visit places that the app marks for you on a map of your city. In Barcelona, if you visit Park Güell, you can earn 30 Wards, and La Boqueria, 10, or Museu Picasso, 15.
To transfer the money to your bank, you will need to reach 3,000 Wards, which is €15. At that point you can decide to transfer it to a bank account, donate it to an NGO or use it as a discount for some associated brands.
Regardless of what you walk, it's very important that you log into the app before you go to sleep each day and select 'Swap Steps' so that the app counts the steps you've taken.
