The government of the People's Republic of China will open a new R&D center built by Huawei in Shanghai and valued at 1.4 billion dollars (about 1.3 billion euros) and will come into operation before the end of 2024. The objective is to establish it as a headquarters pioneering research in semiconductors and advanced technologies such as 5G, AI and clouds.
Authorities explain that the facilities, announced in 2019, cover more than 2 million square meters in the Quingpu district, will house 30,000 people and have their own road and railway networks.
It will be made up of seven “architectural groups” with university campuses and a plaza, and he added that they are designed to house “a diversified industrial community.”
Also according to authorities, it is by far Huawei's largest R&D center, the one that has received the greatest investments from the company, and is expected to attract the "best talents" in order to help the manufacturer advance in key technologies such as 5G and cloud computing.
