Gureak, job opportunities for people with disabilities

Gureak, whose headquarters are in San Sebastián, is the privately owned company that offers the most jobs in Gipuzkoa, with 6,100 employees. The company, dedicated to offering job opportunities to people with disabilities, now focuses its objectives on generating employment through digitalisation.

The company was founded in 1975 on the initiative of families of people with intellectual disabilities to offer them personal development. It is a public-private non-profit corporation, whose largest shareholder is Atzegi, the association of people with disabilities in Gipuzkoa, with 32%. Another 20% is held, respectively, by the Kutxa Foundation, the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council and the ONCE-dependent company Ilunion. In its early days, its activity was focused on the industrial field, with diversification of services and communications.

It is now the privately owned company that provides the most employment in Gipuzkoa, with 6,100 workers (5,000 of them with disabilities), distributed in three divisions: industrial, services and Datapost.

In the services division, it has 1,500 workers, dedicated to cleaning, gardening, service stations, vending and hospitality activities. In this area, sales are limited to Gipuzkoa. The third division, Gureak Datapost, with more than 500 people, is dedicated to data management, information and communications services.

Gureak Datapost handles complaints from travellers in companies such as Vueling, citizen services in town halls or technical support for web platforms, such as Metaposta. In addition, they manage the printing and enveloping of taxes and fines in Catalonia and the Basque Country, the income tax declaration in Gipuzkoa, or Osakidetza communications for the different cancer screening programmes.

Its clients are the public administration, which represents 65% of the business, and the remaining 35% are private companies such as Vueling, Carrefour, Kutxabank, Caja Laboral, Mutua Madrileña or Cuétara.

The main objectives are to generate employment in digital environments and generate opportunities for people with disabilities.
