Many people suffer from a feeling of dizziness when traveling by car, especially when traveling in the back seats.Motion sickness is usually caused by sensory conflict. Actions such as browsing a magazine, reading a book or looking at the mobile phone can exacerbate the feeling of discomfort, so those who suffer from them directly choose not to look away from the window.
Aware of this, Apple has been working for months on a solution so that its users can continue using their devices during a trip without experiencing the unpleasant feeling of dizziness.
The solution created by Apple is called Vehicle Motion Cues; This is a new feature for both iPhone and iPad whose purpose is to "help reduce the feeling of motion sickness in moving vehicles." "As studies reveal, motion sickness is usually caused by a sensory conflict between what a person sees and feels, which prevents some people from comfortably using their iPhone or iPad while traveling in a vehicle," the company justifies.
According to the technology itself, it is a technology with "animated dots on the edges of the screen that represent changes in the movement of the vehicle to mitigate this sensory conflict without interfering with the main content. Through the sensors integrated into "On iPhone and iPad, Vehicle Motion Cues detects if someone is in a moving vehicle and responds accordingly."
As seen in the videos captured by some users who have already tested this functionality, the points located on the margins of the device move in tandem with the vehicle, reflecting to the user the real movement that the vehicle is going through. This way, users should not feel dizzy or at least see its effects reduced.
This feature can be configured to appear automatically on the iPhone, and it can be activated and deactivated from the Control Center on terminals that have the iOS 18 version.
