The Google application is already testing the driving license integrated in Wallet in several American states, the Mountain View application that we usually pay for.

He has been with a mobile driving license in Spain for a couple of years. This is possible thanks to the My DGT application. This application has been designed to carry this document and those related to our car safely and electronically. Now this functionality is being extended to other applications aimed at the integration of bank or loyalty cards. This is the case of Google Wallet, which has already begun to electronically integrate driving licenses in some regions. This opens an opportunity that could be possible in the future in Spain, without necessarily taking it to the MiDGT.

Digital driving licence

Google enters its Wallet application following what we have known now thanks to The Verge. According to this media, Goo-gle is already testing the digital card in several United States. Specifically in Maryland, Colorado and Arizona. In all of them, Mountain View already have tests underway to see how this new digital document is disseminated in their application. In fact, also from this support they have shared images with the driving licenses configured in this application.

Let's see how this new functionality is configured in which you can choose the status of the driving license. Within the licenses and cards that we can now add in the application, in the United States, mainly the driver's license and in many cases the identification card, here almost like a DNI, we can see in last place the DNI. The images show that these cards are perfectly encrypted on the phone according to Google.

Therefore, only we have access to them, so they stay away from third parties. To increase the driver's license it is necessary to photograph both sides, as well as upload a brief video of our face to the servers, we understand that to verify the veracity of the data and that there is no identity, a theft with facial recognition. This functionality seems to have appeared at the moment in the beta version of the Google Wallet application, so it would still be weeks or months before it became a reality.

Of course, we are talking about the United States, since being such sensitive documentation, it is clear that in each country it must follow a development path that allows it to adapt to current legislation. In Spain, being a miDGT, it seems difficult for the authorities to give users access to the card through third-party applications. In any case, it is a project that should still evolve a lot, so it does not seem that in the case of our country it will be available soon, we will have to wait a year or another to see our driving license. Application of Google, or also of Apple, with the same purpose.

When Apple predicted iOS 15 in Spain, we saw that Apple Wallet had a very interesting function: the possibility of linking public documents on the iPhone. Identity documents and others such as driving license are included. Now, Apple announces the operation of this function that for the first time will arrive in the United States.
