Gamescom 2022
Gamescom this year was meant to be the biggest video game event in the world. In part, we will not deny, because of the withdrawal from the E3 game, but also because they put all the meat on the grill from Germany and took the opportunity to give everything, face-to-face and online, keeping what made the last edition exceptional: an open and participatory model.
It's a celebration of the past, present and future of the video game, where, incidentally, Geoff Keighley has booked a place for a new edition of the traditional Opening Night Live, the opening gala of the German trade show, which is sprinkled with announcements, news and surprises. The highlight of Gamescom 2022? How to kick off a big event with content scheduled for six days.
Gamescom 2022 took place from August 23rd to 28th, both days inclusive. To be fair, it was scheduled to start on the 21st with Devcom's welcome dinner, a parallel conference dedicated to bringing together developers, publishers and other industry players.
As we mentioned, this year's Gamescom format went from a face-to-face, online and mixed model, and thus, in addition to the events programmed by the participants, a space was set up for exhibitions, stands and all kinds of demonstrations. Initiatives aimed at the general public, face-to-face and open - including concerts and cosplay competitions - for all audiences, at Koelnmessen in Cologne.
In terms of local content, and after Opening Night Live, four areas were set up, including the Gamescom Entertainment Area, Gamescom Business Area, Gamescom Event Arena and Gamescom Congress on August 26. And if that wasn't enough, in addition to the touristic possibilities of the city, gamescomCamp was once again enabled as an alternative and on the premise of offering the biggest camping for video game fans in all of Europe. Of course, all organized with the appropriate sanitary measures and imposing quite reasonable restrictions.
