Free video games for quarantine

The video game industry has grown tremendously, and is getting better and better figures year after year. In Spain, according to the latest 2018 study by the Spanish Video Game Association, this area had a turnover of 1,530 euros and had an impact of 3,577 million on the economy. In fact, it is a favorite pastime in many homes, and not just for teenagers. In this quarantine brought on by the coronavirus crisis, this activity has risen by 271% according to data released by Telefónica, and the industry has seen the opportunity to offer a wide range of titles for free.

XXI. to be a 21st century gamer would be an endless list of video games. The diversity of styles (strategy, team games, shooters, etc.) makes it difficult to have an empty decalogue. However, in the case of some of these games that are available for almost every platform, there are millions and millions of players around the world. League of Legends, Counter Strike, APEX Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone are part of the essence of this fun and competitive world (and especially of this recent era). Playing in one of them is almost mandatory to be a video player. So the mandatory shutdown caused by the pandemic is the perfect time to unload one of them and spend hours and hours on it.

A moment to recover from nostalgia

For those who stayed in the era of fun games, for those who were lucky enough not to have to leave the inner house because of an Atari, a Spectrum or an Amstrad, video games have been transformed like they never imagined. Graphics, gameplay, production, arguments ... But nostalgia plays its part. There is no need to worry about these decades being spent away from the industry. Titles like Pac-Man, Pong, Tetris, Sonic, Street Fighter and Super Mario Bros. are available with a single click or a visit to a mobile store. And for those who want to remember the magic of those times, with control in hand, they can buy consoles like Mega Drive, Play Station and Super Nintendo (NES), which have been redesigned by Sega, Sony and Nintendo respectively.

Offering platforms for coronavirus

With the increase in confinement, the platforms have made various offers to increase the consumption of video games. They have come out as the days go by and many of them are very attractive.

For example, in the case of Play Stations, different sagas of Destiny 2, PES 2020 Lite, Dauntless and Path of Exile are available to all audiences. If we continue with the consoles, Nintendo Switch has opted for the following titles, among others: Super Kirby Clash, Pokémon Quest, Warframe, Fallout Shelter and Tetris 99. The Xbox, meanwhile, has: Gwent, Warface, Too Human, Puzzle RPG and Game Pass, which dropped by one euro during the first month, allow access to a hundred recently released games.

Steam almost monopolizes the offering for computers. This platform tends to drop in price throughout the year, and at this time of the coronavirus, it hasn’t missed a chance: Half-Life, Drawful 2 and Life is Strange can be downloaded for free for almost the entire quarantine. It is best for the user to review their store almost daily, as many games appear for free overnight.
