Even Barbie has her own mobile phone

Here's the new 'Barbie Flip Phone': it's pink, comes with a cover and aims to promote digital disconnection.

Yes, you read that right. Barbie has her own mobile phone. It went on sale last August, focusing on digital disconnection and personalization.

Always taking the color pink as its flag and in collaboration with the Finnish company HMD Global, the manufacturer of Nokia mobile phones, Mattel presented this new phone with a retro style cover and buttons that move away from 'smartphone' devices.

Actually, the "Barbie Flip Phone" is nothing more than a Nokia 2660 Flip with updates and exclusive content for the doll.

Beyond the appearance of the phone, it aims to reduce the use of the Internet and includes applications such as 'Meditation with Barbie' or 'Tips for digital balance', which encourage life away from screens.

The mobile phone is intended for the youngest members of the family. To these children, their families want to give a phone, but not a smartphone, and also to adults who want to have an alternative to the digital sphere to disconnect.
This was announced last July at the presentation of the phone in London, at the Design Museum in the British capital, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of Barbie, before the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the doll, where those present could only enjoy the features of the mobile phone.

According to Lars Silberbauer, HMD's global marketing director, the digital world we live in feels like "the hustle and bustle of the web never stops".
"This phone encourages you to ditch your phone when you want less browsing and more fun," he said in a press release.

Personalization is another pillar on which this phone is based, supported by two cases with a "vintage" design inspired by Barbie, a phone strap and various stickers, among other accessories.

In addition, the most fanatical people of the brand can also enjoy access to exclusive content on the phone, such as the classic game 'Snake' but in a Barbie version or other surprises, by entering keywords or dates related to the doll.

Aimed at the fans

If you're a die-hard Barbie fan, you're in luck, because a new phone with a retro design and a Barbie theme is already here. From Human Mobile Devices' partnership with Mattel comes the HDM Barbie, which offers a nostalgic range of calling, texting, and social networking features that take a break from today's smartphones. The company claims that this will bring the user back to simpler and sweeter days.

As mentioned, this phone is basically a Nokia 2660 Flip, but customized with a Barbie theme. The most striking thing about this device is the accessories it includes, as it is designed for true fans of the legendary doll. The mobile brings back replaceable cases, which are inspired by the Barbie range of the 90s.

It also comes with a set of adhesive crystals and retro Barbie stickers, like flowers, flamingos and rainbows, allowing for a high level of customization. It comes with a pastel, pink, yellow and blue phone strap adorned with charms inspired by the doll's most iconic looks: a tiny pair of 1959 sunglasses, a Malibu skateboard, and more. All of this comes in a box that mimics a custom jewelry box.

The phone has a customized user interface with Barbie wallpapers and app icons tailored to the doll's world. The USB-C cable also comes in light pink, although the charger is not included. Her software has been modified to feature pink as the dominant color and hidden 'easter eggs' and Barbie keywords that can be activated by dialing *#227243#.

As we said, the Nokia 2660 is only a Flip and its camera is 0.3 megapixels, although it has a built-in mirror for selfies with a 1.77-inch external display. The device is available at the HMD online store at a price of €129.99 and is clearly a collection item for true fans of Barbie history.
