The United States and the European Commission (EC) have reached an agreement on research in 6G technology. Thus, for example, the document sets out the benefits that could arise from more secure communications infrastructures.
The United States and the European Union (EU) will collaborate to support “disaggregated 6G cloud architectures with standardized interfaces between stakeholders” and ensure that future networks contribute to sustainability goals.
According to the same authorities, all this is in line with a joint declaration on 6G to which 10 EU Member States gave their support in early 2024.
Additionally, governments have highlighted the potential of the next generation of mobile networks to generate “a new landscape for business operations.” They expect convergence to increase between the areas of connectivity, robotics, cloud and commerce.
The United States and the EU have also reaffirmed their collaboration on AI, publishing a joint document that details possible use cases, such as climate mitigation, energy and emergency intervention.
In this document, the partners ensure that AI can contribute to mitigating the challenges posed by cities. Thus, for example, they explain that AI can be applied to electrical networks to optimize energy supply, or carry out digital twinning on an urban scale in order to improve response in emergency cases and semiconductors.
