The VI Smart Cities Conference has been held. Congress

The Tecma Red team, with the support of the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence and RED.es, held the VI Smart Cities Conference on 15 September 2020. He organized the congress. As a novelty of this edition, the event was held simultaneously online and in person, in the La Nave space of the City of Madrid.

Content and topics

The main headline of this new edition was “Decarbonise, Digitize and Distribute: The Future Challenges of Cities by 2050”. With this in mind, the VI. The conference addressed key issues related to Smart Cities and Territories, and emphasized the use of technology and innovation to achieve the goals of sustainable development and the European commitments of a CO2-free society by 2050.

The aim was to exchange knowledge and experiences in urban environments, indirectly and in a multidisciplinary and multidisciplinary framework, especially by highlighting the initiatives being developed in Spain.

This initiative, which is already established as a reference professional forum in Spain, is one of the important actions reflected in the National Plan for Smart Territories (Plan Nacional de Territorios Inteligentes) (Action 4: Communication and Dissemination).

VI Smart Cities. At the conference, a wide range of areas and topics were explored through speakers who stand out for their experience, knowledge and communication skills. The following thematic areas were established in the VI Smart Cities Conference. In Congress:

  • Government, Citizen Participation and Social Innovation.
  • Urban design and accessibility.
  • Transport and Mobility.
  • Energy efficiency, smart grids and renewable energy.
  • Urban environment, circular economy and quality of life.
  • Digital Transformation and Public Services 4.0.
  • Security and services for people.
  • Smart Tourist Destinations.
  • Smart Rural Territories and Smart Islands.
  • Smart Cities and Territories Projects (Urban or Territorial Projects had to be submitted by the Municipalities / Administrations / Administrations of the cities, nuclei and / or territories that promote them and had already been completed or with the approval of the budget in the project phase).

Important note: The elements that were considered interesting to highlight in initiatives / projects for any subject are:

  1. Use of open public and / or private data. Identify obstacles and good practices. Data quality.
  2. Digital enabling technologies used: Artificial Intelligence, 5G, IoT, Blockchain, etc.
  3. Promoting entrepreneurial ecosystems. Success stories.
  4. Funding Mechanisms. Sustainability.
  5. Implementation based on Innovative Public Procurement.
  6. Government initiatives and use of technical regulations.
  7. Cybersecurity and privacy.
