The European Commission's eArchiving initiative is collaborating with the European digital cultural heritage projects 4CHaims and Mnemosyne to develop specifications, guidelines and best practices for preserving 3D simulations, visualizations and digital objects.
The eArchiving initiative collaborates with European projects to preserve digital cultural heritage. The European Commission's eArchiving initiative collaborates with the European projects 4CHaims and Mnemosyne to preserve digital cultural heritage.
One of the key objectives of the eArchiving initiative is to work closely with digital cultural heritage projects and organizations to help develop practical standards and methods for the growing amount of 3D digital material.
It collaborates with the consortium of the European project 4CHaims, with which it exchanged knowledge and best practices within the framework of the final event of the project held in Brussels.
The eArchiving initiative also works with the UNESCO Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage and its Mnemosyne project, a support and coordination action of the European Commission to achieve a robust workflow and channel for producing and preserving digital material.
Part of the eArchiving coordination team attended the final event of this project at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in Limassol. There the CUT signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the eArchiving consortium E-ARK and with Mnemosyne to formalize the collaboration in the development of a 3D content information type specification (CITS) for digital cultural heritage.
Details on a possible CITS format and appropriate preservation formats have been provided to raise community awareness of the need to properly archive digital material. As a result of this collaboration, several Mnemosyne members have joined regular eArchiving meetings.
