The city of San Sebastian will be the coordinator of the European project Lighthouse Replicate (H2020) in the smart city transition through the Fomento de San Sebastián. The purpose is to develop and evaluate development in cities of the cities of San Sebastian, Florencia and Bristol, as a sustainable city, in the direction of the SmartCity towards improvements in energy efficiency, sustainable mobility and ICT / Infrastructures.
This will accelerate the dissemination of new technology, improving citizen's quality of life and starting the replication process. Donostia will be the head of this 38-member project and will have a budget of 29 million euros.
Fomento de San Sebastián is a public municipal association that works for the promotion of the social and economic development of the city through innovation, through the creation and transformation of knowledge through network work and project management and promotion through sustainability criteria. It also defines an Action Plan for the period 2016-2020, through which the city embodies, in an efficient and planned manner, its development projects under a comprehensive and smart urban environment.

Many of the city's projects are being developed by the Promotion of San Sebastian, the integration of solutions to the end of a smart city. These include the European Replica (Replicate) project, which develops smart solutions to a city district, which serves as a showcase for a sustainable neighborhood. Also, the SmartKalea project can be highlighted as a comprehensive model for the validation of various smart inserts based on a pioneering project in its geographical replication areas, in a smart reference point for becoming the city of San Sebastian.
The initiative also has a public-private partnership model that includes different agents that coexist in a city area from a Smart point of view: citizens, businesses, technology companies and the Department of Municipalities, under the coordination of Fomento de San Sebastián. SmartKala collects solutions that are sustainable in a single street in the city, requiring a degree of coordination and integration at a low level, which serves as a pilot experience to extend to other parts of the city.
Fomento de San Sebastián promotes local clustering through local clustering policies, such as the Smart Cluster. This includes the participation of different institutions and agents, such as the Technology Centers, Universities and Educational Centers, Associations and Professional Schools, Financial Institutions and Sectoral Institutions, Public Entities and local smart area companies, with the aim of identifying and developing synergies to their smart city strategy be part of the development and progress of execution.
