Diabetes is constantly measured, without needles

A new invention presented at CES 2021 could revolutionize the way diabetic patients use to measure blood glucose levels; it would be done thanks to a device that looks like a smart bracelet.

Diabetics are accustomed to having to use a blood glucose measuring needle every day. That is precisely the theme that would change thanks to this newly introduced invention, which could be one of the biggest innovations of the year. In the run-up to CES 2021, Tokyo-based Quantum Operation, a health-promoting company, has unveiled what would become the world’s first non-invasive glucose monitor that would perform continuously without a needle, without any invasive measurements, from blood glucose levels.

To make this possible, this new device would use spectrum technology patented by the company to measure the exact glucose in the skin in a person’s bloodstream without the need for a needle. The use of this new technology allows diabetic patients to stop using needles for measurements in their daily routine and simply wear a portable device similar to a wristwatch.

This non-invasive 24/7 control is performed using new material spectrometers. One of these materials would be used to emit the optimal spectrum; the other is very sensitive to the target spectra.
This technology can eventually be used to measure a variety of signals, including heart rate and electrocardiography. According to Quantum Operation CEO Kazuma Kato, "so far the insertion of a finger or arm into a needle has been the only method to accurately measure glucose levels. Our wristband will change that to make the painful daily routine useless for all diabetic patients." He added, "Our core technologies allow healthcare companies to collect accurate big data, thus providing better solutions for the control and management of each disease."

Quantum Operation

Quantum Operation Inc. is a Japanese startup that promises to turn diabetes treatment around forever. As announced at CES 2021, they have managed to create the first continuous blood glucose meter without the need for a needle. Given that there is a great deal of interest in finding better ways to control this disease, a solution like the one proposed by Operation Quantum could become Apple’s buying target. The Apple Watch would achieve a function that would make it unique in the world. The key to achieving this non-invasive 24x7 monitoring is the key technologies in Quantum Operation, which include new spectrometric materials, one designed for optimal spectrum transmission and the other highly sensitive to the target spectrum, as well as innovative firmware. It cancels out noise and extracts data efficiently. These technologies can be used to measure all kinds of vital signs, from heart rate to electrocardiogram (ECG).

According to the company, which is focused on the healthcare IoT sector, it is the first device capable of doing so. Along with that, you determine the need to prick yourself with needles and your blood glucose level, which is one of the main obstacles to treating diabetes today. Kazuma Kato, CEO of Japanese startup, also said that he has big data technology to manage and offer better solutions in the treatment of diseases.

Another feature to note is that doctors can use it to monitor patients remotely. This reduces visitation, travel, and other needs to control the disease.
Being able to control blood glucose without a needle is the Holy Grail of today’s medicines. In fact, in addition to being a great business opportunity, it is a way to make a big impact on people’s lives.
