Cisco and MU inaugurate new technology laboratory

Cisco and the Polytechnic School of Mondragon University have opened a laboratory on advanced communication technologies and cybersecurity, on the campus of Mondragon, to promote technological training and promote collaboration with industry.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the companies Ikusi and Sernivel3 - official partners of Cisco in the Basque Country - and aims to be a reference point, both for training students at Mondragon University and for holding business events. The laboratory has opened in building 11 of the Polytechnic School of Mondragon University, equipped with the latest Cisco technologies.

With the latest Cisco technologies at hand, students will have the opportunity to train in key areas such as cybersecurity, communication networks and procedures for incorporating IoT (Internet of Things) systems into industrial environments. In fact, these technologies are fundamental for industry 4.0. Companies will also have access to the laboratory to learn about the most advanced technological solutions for industry, including artificial intelligence, edge computing and digital twins, as well as predictive maintenance, zero trust security and other methodologies.

The laboratory will have a dynamic agenda and will organize various activities to connect the university and companies. Thus, technical events focused on Industry 4.0 will be held every six months, in which Cisco experts will participate, giving talks on artificial intelligence and similar cutting-edge technologies. Likewise, quarterly round tables and networking events will be held with professionals from the sector. In addition, Cisco experts will give specialized courses and master classes will be offered to University students. Finally, other initiatives are also planned; such as hackathons and co-creation events.

Strategic commitment

The launch of this laboratory is a major strategic commitment for Mondragon Unibertsitatea; since, on the one hand, it will be able to strengthen its capacity to create professionals trained in cutting-edge technologies and, on the other, improve its connection with the Basque business network. With the new site, the University aims to strengthen its benchmark in technological innovation. In the same vein, it aims to become a key partner for companies that want to use the latest cybersecurity, communication network and IoT solutions in industrial processes.

Several representatives from Cisco and Mondragon University attended the inauguration of the laboratory, as well as leaders from other organizations. Among them were: Gonzalo García (Cisco Regional Account Manager), Nieves Hevia (Cisco Sales Manager), José Iglesias (General Manager of Ikusi Spain) and Carlos Pindado and Isabel Artaza (Manager and General Manager of Sernivel3, respectively).
