Blockchain in the liquor industry

In recent years, blockchain technology has been highlighted for its numerous advantages, including security and transparency, for the benefit of both the financial sector and the art world.

In order to provide users with greater security when consuming a liquor, some entrepreneurs have sought to bring the benefits of blockchain to the liquor industry.

In this interview, Daniel Gómez Molina, the co-founder and leader of Certiblock, spoke to us about this company that holds two patents and works with one of the world's largest snack companies.

How did this blockchain-focused company come about?

Ours is a dream come true. We started working on this project more than two years ago. My partner was looking into everything related to blockchain, because at the time everyone was talking about cryptocurrencies and NFTs. So we took on the challenge of bringing all the benefits of blockchain to the business level in one day. And while security is one of its biggest benefits, we thought about how we could bring that security to users' daily lives, which is why we focused on the liquor and pharmaceutical industry.

We were always crazy, but crazy on the ground, that's why once we managed to establish a first idea, we started researching, delving further into this technology and developing patents (today we have two patents, one focused on the liquor industry and one focused on the product).

After taking that first step, we started knocking on all the doors, in fact we managed to get together with the biggest liquor company, Guala Closures from Italy, and we haven't stopped since. Actually, part of our dream is to help save lives and make people feel safe when consuming any product.

What is this solution?

We created two brands: DPA (Dynamic Product Authenticator) and DLA (Dynamic Liquore Authenticator), which represent each of our patents and signify that the product is blockchain certified. So if a user buys a bottle of liquor, for example, they can find that product and find a QR code on the lid that they need to scan. After scanning this code, the user will be able to read this digital asset, which is dynamic and will allow him to know if this product is suitable for consumption or if it has been discovered before. The good thing about this product is that the user can be sure about this product and report whether the bottle has already been opened or not.

It should be noted that the QRs come directly from Guala Closures and the liquor production process is not affected in any way. We also have our Angel, which is a seal on a product that means it is safe for consumption or use.

On the other hand, we have also worked with consumer, pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies, so that users can scan the codes and discover the characteristics of the product, as well as whether they have been opened in advance, are suitable for consumption or can be used.

What industry are you working with in the implementation of this technology?

In our first phase of expansion we have been working with the pharmaceutical, liquor and cosmetic sectors. With each of them we have gone forward hand in hand with different companies. For example, in liquors we are with the Fábrica de Licores de Antioquia, in cosmetics we are working with the company Prebel, and in the pharmaceutical sector we are advanced with two important companies.

What was it like to find that support and reach out to customers with this blockchain idea?

It has been very challenging, because starting a business in the technology field is very complex and even more so when people associate blockchain with cryptocurrency. The relationship they end up making is one of deception, but the truth is that these types of tools can be used in other industries and can be very beneficial.

I think having a great team that understands the company's vision and mission has been key to communicating the brand's goals and finding really good business partners who want to work hand-in-hand with Certiblock.

When will the project be released to the national market?

Our goal is for users to be able to scan products soon, we expect this to happen in the second half of the year, and of course to progress to other countries such as Mexico and the United States. We are ready to support your request with our entire platform. We are very happy to be attending the fair with Fábrica de Licores de Antioquia.

What does the loyalty work you want to implement consist of?

It's very important to us that users take care of their health and know firsthand what they're consuming, so we encourage people to scan codes and earn points. Therefore, the project that we have established an alliance with Puntos Colombia, who believed in this, so that consumers can earn on this platform by scanning our codes.
