They have a great ally of technology bike enthusiasts. Thanks to GPS and mobile applications, it is no longer necessary to consult the map every time we want to breathe fresh air on the bike. There are many applications available in App Store, but not all of them are as complete as we present below. We are talking about BikeMap, the ultimate application for traveling the world by bike.
The app is completely free, with voice navigation, and you can enjoy a wide range of cycling routes that cover all areas of the world. You will be able to get on the bike from the first moment as soon as you start pedaling. It's very easy to use, even if you have to go to www.bikemap.net to choose a new route. To do this, you can use a computer.
The website is very intuitive and at the bottom we find a range of options from which to create new routes, to those shared by other users or to the cycling routes in the official estates. At the beginning of a route we can mark how not to, what might be the starting and ending point of this, add stops or other points of interest. Once the process is complete, we will see its route reflected on the map with all the information and then we can send it to the application installed on the mobile. Available for both Android and iPhone.
The navigation system used by the application is GPS and the voice function allows us to follow the route without having to look at the screen. With this we avoid distractions and thus have less chance of suffering an accident. We can also find out about speed, distance and terrain statistics immediately. The information is automatically saved so that it can be accessed later at stops that can be made during the trip or later, when you get home. The app also includes points of interest for resting, fixing a hole or a surprise, or just admiring and enjoying the scenery. If you want to share your tracks with the app's 5 million users, it's easy to do. You can add more than 8.6 million routes described. So this app can become your best travel companion.
Bikemap.net is a website dedicated to sharing thousands of free routes for workouts, vacations or weekend bike rides. Currently, this website stores 541,836 cycle paths worldwide, with a total length of 47,798,852 kilometers, highlighting more than 30,000 routes to Spanish territory.
How BikeMap works is very simple. All we have to do is click on the different areas of the map displayed by Google Maps technology until we find a route that interests us near the area we plan to take to the streets. The available routes are shown as icons of the bike and show all the information related to the route: distance, gradient, surface, profile, scores of other cyclists, as well as a brief description of the route to follow.
Without registering, we can choose the route we want and export it to GPX format so that we can use it on our GPS device, or in Google Earth format on our computer. Registered users can also post their preferred routes, plan route-based workouts, and create events from them. Registration is free and we can also use our Facebook profile to register on BikeMap.
