Bilbao will be the world headquarters of the GEM Conference on Global Entrepreneurship in 2025

With the support of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Bilbao City Council and the Basque Government and thanks to the candidacy presented by EEB-OVE Basque Entrepreneurship Observatory.

Bilbao has been chosen as the world headquarters to host the GEM Entrepreneurship Monitor Global 2025 meeting, the flagship event on entrepreneurship in the world. The announcement was made in the context of the presentation of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Global Report 2023/20249, held in Morocco. This meeting has the support of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, the Bilbao City Council and the Basque Government, through SPRI.

EEB-OVE Basque Entrepreneurship Observatory (GEM País Vasco) presented the city's candidacy, in which they highlighted the key points that have finally supported its election: Euskadi stands out as an outstanding entrepreneurial ecosystem, it leads the state ranking with a rating that exceeds the European Union average and is similar to that of the United States.

With 20 years of experience, the EEB-OVE research team has forged a solid track record in measuring the entrepreneurial phenomenon in the Basque Country supported by the three Basque universities: University of the Basque Country- Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea, University of Deusto and Mondragon Unibertsitatea. Likewise, Bilbao is located in the Top 10 of the best European cities for foreign investment. The attraction of foreign investment positions Bilbao as one of the best cities in Europe for this purpose.

Bilbao, by being chosen as the leading venue for the world-renowned event on entrepreneurship, will become the epicenter of entrepreneurship on a global level. The presence of renowned academics and experts from more than 50 countries at the conference will significantly enrich knowledge about the entrepreneurial phenomenon. This global exchange of ideas will not only promote deeper understanding, but will also create valuable opportunities for international collaboration for Bilbao, Bizkaia and Euskadi.

The conference will attract entrepreneurial talent from various parts of the world to the city, the territory of Bizkaia and therefore to the entire Autonomous Community of the Basque Country. This knock-on effect will undoubtedly benefit the local community and will contribute to consolidating Bilbao's position as a key city for entrepreneurship on a global level.

The designation of Bilbao, Bizkaia and Euskadi as venues for the GEM Global event emphasizes its importance as the epicenter of entrepreneurship and provides international impetus, the attraction of talent and the consolidation of its position as an essential territory for entrepreneurship on a global level.
