At the time of confinement, board games have also become fashionable. If so, now you’ve wrapped it all up on this touchscreen table. And here the pieces will not be lost, and no one will have a chance to make traps!
Arcade1Up is an American company that specializes in creating replicas of classic arcade-type machines that used to house bars and arcades in the 80s and 90s. Their latest creation, however, is quite different: because of the Infinity Game Table, a coffee table that has become a video game console for digital board games.
In these pandemic months, classic board games have experienced a revival because they are easy to play and the whole family can participate. The Infinity Game Table, as the name suggests, is basically the same: the unlimited digital board game (for a fee) that has allowed you to play through a giant touch screen, the table.
It’s not a new idea, because we already saw it a few months ago in other initiatives like Gameboard-1, but it’s still interesting.
It’s a table that can be placed in the living room, but can also be placed on any regular table, as the legs can be removed.
The Infinity Game Table has a 24- or 32-inch high-resolution touch screen. It comes with pre-installed licensed Hasbro games, all known for: Monopoly, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Yahtze, puzzle games, card games, mini games, even children’s coloring and reading comics. It also comes with a game store that can be purchased and downloaded directly at the table. The WiFi connection allows you to play with six other players online.
Characteristics
Many predicted that mobile phones and tablets would end up with classic board games. Of course, something that didn’t happen. Television didn’t destroy radio, Netflix didn’t even destroy movie theaters, and so on. In contrast, board games are in good health. Gameboard-1, far from wanting to replace them, offers us an interesting hybrid that mixes these fun games with modern video games. It is a board game that replaces the table with a touch screen.
The concept has been tested before, but this is not a tablet made up of dice and pictures. It’s a well-thought-out platform, designed by Ryan Wyatt, one of the founders of the Xbox console, who was also involved in the design of the PlayStation 3.
Gameboard-1 is a board game console at its core. It connects you to a store that buys eleven classic games, from Parcheesi to Goose Game, which you download into memory. There are also much more elaborate augmented games.
